yeah the plan is locked rear open front at this stage, unless I stumble across an LSD, in which case it might be as well to tight LSD the rear and lock the front... still thinking about it and it'll depend whats around - but yeah, open front locked rear at this point.

This one is really not in the best condition, and its a long way from you... you'd probably be better off looking locally. You'll probably get one up there for what it would cost just to freight this one....

ok, so rolled out in the lovely Chch sun to check levels etc:

Approach angle should be fairly good - theres a little bit of tubework to go around the front, and the fairlead for the winch but thats about it...

Looks a tad higher in the front but like you say when you add bar work etc it should flatten down nicely.

Heath, long time no see... what are you driving these days?

The rear top coil mounts are just sitting in place, there is a length of 50x75 welded across the chassis just to hold them so I can work out what height to actually weld them at so its not a problem. see here:

I have three different sets of Range Rover springs to try so will make something work.

There is still the winch, the deck, the battery and the fuel tank to go in the back, so I need to allow for that too...

More progress tomorrow hopefully

Yeah, although it cost me my new cellphone last night - rolling it back into the garage I must have leaned on the truck too hard and smashed the screen

Just off out to do some work on it... I'm going to get the tank mounted next I think, then its just plumbing and a couple of wires and it should burst into life...

Hi Steve,

Been lurking in the background watching what is happening with interest.

I have a 2wd Courier ute at the moment bought as a tow wagon for when I get my next toy. Most likely an auto vitara with just a "few" modifications (yeah right).

Any plans to coil the front?

Anyway - looking good. I seem to remember you were using the bighorn rear end which is the same setup os what you have done now. Did you make new arms purely for strength? And the new mount over the diff? Was the big & horny one not suitable?

Good to see you're stil here Heath - as for the front, no it will remain Hilux rear leafs - 2 reasons, 1: they are nice and stable and 2: they flex very very well. This will be a road-going truck as well so the stability is important.

As for the Courier - they are a nice wee ute, why not throw a Hilux transfer case under it and a solid axle in the front?

I was, but the new owner wants simplicity and reliability so the Hilux rear was a better option... same diff as the front, lots around, cheap and easy to replace if necessary. It is still using the Isuzu links, as they are looong, but I've made the mounts to take the new 900 long heavy duty links when I get around to developing them

The new mount off the top of the diff is an 80-series cruiser lower rear link... it was beefy and long enough so I used it

I'm using a booster from a late model surf, with a standard Hilux 7/8 (or 15/16, can't remember) master cylinder... should be fine for this setup. You can use an 80-series master cylinder, and I had one here before I moved my shed but somewhere in the move its got lost... which is a bugger because they are hellishly expensive (it was brand new).

PS: Yes I still need that shaft - Whens a good time to come get it
