Ground Anchors
Ground Anchors
Haven't seen any comments on here regarding ground anchors for awhile.
Who has one and what do you think of them?
I see there was one on TM recently.

Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

I use three heavy steel stakes and chain. Works well. After the last weekend in at Lake Daniels I have decided to move to a plough type ground anchor but make that is collapsable. Works much better in swamppy type ground. mate of mine has a few ideas on how to make and wants to give it a go, then let me product test it.

Two sizes, 2T and 3T from memory. Brace the section where it changes angle from the main section to the shovel end, otherwise the existing brace just tears in half.
Chrome moly version of his design would be magic!
have you told him that you brace it, coz if its a design fault I'm sure he'd like to know.
and these are good anchors. he put lots of design and research into getting the correct angles to make it work best.
80 Series on 35" creepies, manual with twin factory lockers.

I was at a Xmas Picnic for another 4x4 club last weekend and saw the following product demonstrated. http://www.lan-cor.com/
There was a large mud hole we played in on the farm and a very steep bank to climb out of with a ramp at about 30deg. The bottom meter was almost vertical and in total it would have been about 2.5 to 3 meters from the waterline to the top.
They placed a rather heavy truck at the bottom of this bank and attached the winch to the lan-cor (which was only screwed in about 350mm!) The lan-cor hardly moved at all and the truck was able to winch itself out.
I could not believe how effective this device was and have orderd one for my own use. (Just gotta get the dammed winch atached now)
Anyhow, check out the site and see for yourselves and come to your own conclusions. Its made here in Chch!
