70 series landcruiser trip

Post by cornfarmer »

Without discriminating against other vehicles or being 'makist' (automobile equivilant of racist) how many 70 series drivers are keen for a 70 series trip somewhere in Canterbury over period Dec/Jan. There have been a few people interested so far, so get the word out, provide some feedback and let's sort something out. The trip doesn't have to be HARDCORE winch truck stuff, but would be a good way to get together and spin yarns about the best truck toyota has ever produced
(modest 70 series owner).

I'm thinking the weekend of the 15th or the 22nd. As for places...

1. Selwyn River from Bealey road to Coes Ford. or

2. Waipara River from Waipara Tavern to the rocks. or

3. Avoca river to Basins hut. (will have to get permission from Bob Brown at Glenthorne station, costs approx $20 per vehicle)

4. Lees valley to Townshend hut.

Any other Ideas?

1. Whats the selwyn river one like?

2. Is that upstream or downstream from state highway 1? Done both ways, isnt really much of a challenge..

3. Avoca river is a long way from chch and is an overnight trip..

4. Is the track into the Townshend hut very challenging?

Are you chch based?

Selwyn from up by Hororata is ok. Theres some mud bogs we havn't been able to get thru.
Havn't been into Townshend myself but there's supposed to be a couple of small river crossings.
What weekend are you keen for 15th or 22nd?
I live about 20min from CHCH

Waipara is good if theres been some rain.. probably wont be much water in it. And theres alot of access issues there lately. Waimak is too fenced off, ashley is ok, not that great. Whats the hurinui like? On the way towards hamner? Im not keen on crossing the main stream unless its low as.. but if ya can drive up one side...

"Houston we have a problem".

Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances and minor technical difficulties I will be unable to attend the trip. I should free again from new years. Sorry team.
