Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way of telling if my 96 Rocky has a LSD and what model number it probably is ? Cheers.
jack both back wheels off the ground at the same time and rotate one tyre. If the other one rotates in the same direction it is LSD if it rotates in the opposite direction it is open. This will show if you have open or LSD but wont show how effective it is or how worn the clutch packs / springs are.

nope dont think toyota stuff fits, (well easy anyway) .. and yeah rear LSD's are like rocking hourse sh*t and arnt that good anyway ... ive managed to kill the clutches in mine in less than 3 months
they were a factory option that you could buy at the time of purchase (along with a PTO winch) rather than being fitted to particular models

well as for model number have a look on the plate under the bonnet. if its a deisel its an f7 sumthing if its the 1600 petrol its an f300. there isnt a lot that is hilux/toyota on these things and also there are only two diff ratios out and they are 3.36 on the rugger/rocky 2.8L deisels and 5.25 i think it is on the feroza/ NZ new rocky (f300).

weeeellllll theres always the err hum "Lincon locker" I hear that it's made under licence in NZ as the "Trans-Arc locker

so Ive been told anyways

Being a '96er' ya Rocky would be the IFS "feroza F300" shape me thinks rather than the older larger Rocky with the 2.8 TD motor and leaf spung suspention all round, if it is the case 2Roky has a list of mods that hes done to his to improve the articulation no end.
Ive done most of the mods on mine now and even with the LSD more like an open diff these days my Little Feroza can keep up with the tougher trucks in my club, and even reign supreme in sand!
best mod you can do is get some decent feet and drop the front sway bar even these two mods with make a world of difference to the little beastie.
Removing the Cat and adding a sports exhaust has giving the little 1600cc about 25% more power and im returning 150-160Km from $20 (or 12L) of fuel
