It'll be 2.5 4D56

madterrano wrote:B-are they expensive to fix

Not to bad, depends what happened. Mostly with these motors is when this happens is the rockershaft holder bolts strip the threads and you can just replace the camshaft caps. (the bits the rockershaft srews into ot that split open)

That is if you got away with it - you may have to whip the head off to ahve a look in there - replacement heads $750 - $1100

madterrano wrote:C-how hard to remove and refit engine

Its easy enough to get a head of these with it still in place - even the exhaust and turbo can be left in place, just unbolt from the head and lever sideways, but to answer your question - you could remove it with general tools but its a bit of a job

I did it all myself so not to bad.....

to give you an indication of removing the engine..it can take 40 mins to completely remove..(i removed my engine 5 x in 1 day to try fix a big end leak in the end ditching it for a second hand mota)they are piss easy to fix in place if you have all the bits..If it's leaking(which they do) ditch it for one thats not from someone like Blairs engines..or better yet put a lex into it..

Yes, but the head might be ok. For whats its worth I'd take it off and get it checked. Take the rocker cover off, (well it prob is still off) and turn it over by hand - you'll soon see if the threads are busted on the rocker shaft and the whole shaft moves up, rather than pushing the valves.

Heads are reasonably priced on trade me and often 2nd hand crack tested ones can be picked up there - mine was $250, not prefect condition as it needed a valve grind.

cheers thanks for the help, so from what ive gathered from my mechanic mate is the idiot who did the cambelt (only 4000kms ago) put too different pulleys on which caused the belt to slip as the pulleys were different patterns, when the pulley was shocked off it accidentilly turned engine over!!

PS. Has anyone got one of these heads for sale?

If you are going to do it yourself and haven't done one before I can suggest a manual for $50 is very well spent. Thats what I did.

Seems odd that the wrong pully got put on.... as you don't need to take them off.

There are belts however and the one I had, had broken the little one down the bottom of the motor, the main one picked it up, stretched it and it jumped teeth on the camshaft pully.

Both need to be replaced at cam belt change time.

Head is fine but its the crankpulley bolt(that big one) well when it was getting smacked off it snapped as it had siezed in place!!

So latest is pull engine out and get the bolt drilled out by Suvic

Sorry for the wrong story, but hey this help above is very useful, i actually got a replacement engine quote $2500!!!!

With the radiator out and all other stuff at the front removed you 'may' be able to get at the bolt without pulling the engine.....

Suvic told me it would be heaps cheaper with engine out, but yea radiator is already out, i would have thought there was enough room..
