Well the front bearing on the gearbox collapsed and subsequently the layshaft has snapped where it goes into the sandwhich plate. Ive got the box out and my mate has stripped it down but finding a new/2nd hand layshaft has been a mission. No wreckers seem to have them and the local gearbox rebuilders want $400+gst for a new shaft.
My mate has measured it up against an RB20DET gearbox from an r32 skyline and reckons they are identical but im a lil uneasy as i dont wana go to all the hassle of puting the box back in and find something isnt quite right.
Anyone know if these are in fact the same shafts or where i can find another cheaper ?
Terrano manual gearbox layshaft

This is a long shot if your stuck, but a mate of mine in Westport has been playing with gear box's in his Terrano. I know he has one or two manual ones floating around that he has been robbing for spares.
Chances are one of them is still in bits and has the shaft you require.
He is on night shift at the moment, so i'll get in touch with him when he comes off either tomorrow or the next day.
PM me.
Pete.

No garaties but I would say they are the same . I have just assemblied a nivara gearbox and it looks just the same as a ca18de box . Apparently you can mix and match housings from the ca18de , sr20 and rb20 etc . Since I bolted the ca housing up to a diesel nissan gearbox there seems to be a fair bit the same . Just sold the old 5 sp too for $50 . Always the way .
