I had this issue on a honda as well, it felt like a shaking at a certain speed, if I increased / decreased is went away.
It turned out it was a drive shaft uni bearing or two...

Does it do it at idle or only driving?
Does it smoke less / more before problem started? I assume it's a diesel here

Hi,

It is a v6 petrol and it does not smoke at all only happens between the speeds of 55 - 70 kms perhour the bearings you talk about are they expensive to replace, it only happens while i drive it

i would pop the rear drive shaft off and replace the U.J's and then get it balanced, U.J's are bugger all.. bout $25 each and balance... not sure, been ages since i had one done, but not much. then replace the hanger bearing at the same time (just to be sure)as you have the D shaft off.

thats my 2c anyway

universals will sort of shake or vibrate. check the universals by trying to shake the driveshaft side to side and up and down. there shouldnt really be any play in it. when they get really bad you will hear them clicking when you are driving really slow (when the drive shaft gets up to the top of a rotation then falls back down due to play) also just check that you havnt put a dent in the driveshaft and that the weights havnt fallen off it. other reasons for vibratoins could be wheel ballance. you can knock weights off/ out of ballance. also mud build up on rims can do the same thing.

missing wheel weights or mud in the wheels will cause the shakey/shimmy/shudder to just get worse as speed increases as far as im aware

Hi
You mention chugging & not vibration. Does it seem like the motor is missing at the speeds you mentioned.May be electrical ,could be something as simple as a dud ht lead ,blocked air filter, spark plugs ( clean & right gap ).

hi, tried moving the driveshaft and i cant seem to move it at all, anyway when i drive it i cant hear anything i think its in the motor i think i will replace the spark plugs and leads to see it that solves the problem the leads look a bit old, actually not good at all but i cant seem to find any exsposed bits, might be good to check with a multimeter, (handy to be a sparky at times).

so is there i diagnotic test i can set the truck on or something ??

Cheers

My subaru did exactly this when running on 91... ran it on 96 and it went away... tuning didn't fix it - apparently they just like 96

try a tank of 96 and see what happend

dont know if its any help  but sounds like a drive shaft issue, like mikeey1 and the guys are sayin.. i've driven a couple of vehicles that had a 'shudder' at a certain kmph and when accelerated or decellerated, it went away.. my old mans fairlane was a beauty, 110km and it felt like warp speed/being in a blender and some retro nasty assed roller coaster all in one..
got it balanced and hey presto, smooth.. 8)

dunno what caused it to come on like that tho..

eh, anyways, good luck guy.. :D
