That is correct Tim.

It took us ages because it was very wey and Kerry and Paul had to winch everywhere.

Andi and myself drove most of it and would have taken a couple of hrs.

Hi Dave
I wouldn't say that. It is a toss up between Axles ,CVs and the ARB locker that all seem to break an equal amount.

I will eventually put Longs in but at the moment I still have 4 spare CVs left.

Three years ago Nigel Harris sent me up 6 CVs and axles. I have now used 2 so I still have 4 to go so that should last me another 6 years.

Sorry, been reading through posts and found my answer

Just out of interest, how much stronger is your Prado front end compared to the standard hilux?

Mine is not a prado axle. It is a 92 PZ70 cruiser axle with Nissan Safari suspension and 70 series cruiser steering.

The bearings , high pinion diff and CVs are the same strength as a Prado , but the housing is box section and miles stronger.

The steering arms are also stronger and less prone to breakage than the prado ones.

Hilux diffs are weak all round and CVs break all the time.

I make a point of not dropping the clutch with revs and if you go back to the Videos of the hill climb you will see my front wheels are in constant contact with the ground whereas Andy Jackson and Paul Delis have wheel bounce that is shock loading the front end

Hi Andy
Did you get the message from Flag about the tee shirt etc found in his garage ?

My Supercharger has its own oil . Only about 50mls but very expensive. It has no water cooling.

The Datsun spring was a 180 but any old strut spring would do.

I have been asked to put photos and dimensions of the spring and anti tramp rod on the rear diff.

I have used a Datsun 180b front strut. This is held at the top by a 100x50x3mm box section that is welded to a 50x6 mm plate welded to the bottom of the round tube above the diff and at the rear to the cross member under the tray

Image

To mount the Anti tramp rod I had a piece of flat 3mm folded. This is 80mm across and 70mm deep with strenghtening folds that are 20 mm at the bottom edge.
This is bolted between the flat welded to the round crossmember and the centre bearing cross member.

It is then braced with 12mm rods to both sides behind the gearbox crossmember.

looking back to the round crossmember with the 50x6mm plate.

I haven't looked at this site lately so I never noticed your comments Whitetrash. I have had Mudzilla staying for a few days so thought we would have a look.

It amazes me how you never cease making a DICK OF YOURSELF because if you knew the facts you would find that RUC and Land Transport NZ changed the speedo backwards for the new motor.

Winding or disconnecting a speedo is illegal but what I did is not illegal.

I bought a new motor and running gear and then applied to Land Transport NZ to alter the Diesel Mileage and adjust the speedo reading to that of the new motor.

They made me prove that the new running gear was new by producing receipts and statements from the source of the motor and then Land transport gave me new ownership papers and then started new diesel mileage .

You can't wind back a speedo without it being questioned because every WOF records it and if it is not enough mileage it is noted in the vehicle history.

"Carjam"shows all the WOF figures so any one can see them.

Murice Wilkes the designer of the Landrover in 1947 was a farmer and he designed it for farm work, anything from cutting firewood to plowing ,making hay etc and that was the reason for the drawbar and PTO etc.

It wasn't until 1950 the Rover company changed the land Rover into a transporter rather than a tractor and dropped the welded towbar.

Those photos are at my place and it is hard to take a photo without another one in the background because I have 4 more. 3 more series 1s and a 2.

The R86s are very different form all the later series 1s from 1950 onwards.

A recent topic asked about superchargers. Here is a trip 3 weeks ago and the comparisons of the hilux with different trucks.

The other are not quick off the mark.
