You are about right Marty.

It is not as if I have just fitted a new set of tyres. These are the old style BFGs that I have had for probably close to 10 years without a problem.

They will no doubt get ripped off on the first trip. I told him the main reason the wheels hang out is because the guards have been pushed in.

I don't know what use a flare will do when the bottom of the guard is higher than the top of the wheel

I got a ticket for this (and several other things) on the way back from lake daniels a while back. They seem to be on the look out for trucks with big wide wheels.
Things got a bit interesting when SHE wanted to ticket me for having no road user charges on my petrol hilux...

Quit your whinging. Your truck may have had a WOF and cert, does not mean it was road legal. Regulations clearly state the tyres can not stick put past the flare. I bet the certifier saw it when there was flares on it. Count yourself lucky the cop saw fit to advise you to put flares on it and took photos to take it up with the WOF guy. He could have ticketed you for it and then gone the wof guy.

Thats not legal. Theres over a quarter of the tyre sticking out past the edge of the body work. You are allowed non. If you are really lucky some may let you off provided the tread is covered and its only the side wall protruding.

X3 your very lucky to not have gotten a ticket, read the regulations old timer, they are the law and you clearly were out side them.

i would have pink stickered it and ticketed you for that and made you get a tow truck come get it as it is clearly not fit for the road.

if it had a chopped off rear end and a big V8 i would let it go tho cos then it would be at least cool.

Because Hiluxs that are chopped off with V8s are so useless and are stopped all the time on the track. I wondered why people continue doing it.

On a serious note, I know it is illegal but normally it doesn't show up because when the rear bar is fitted it has a 3 inch pipe that goes around the back corner and is wider than the wheels.

To put you straight I am not whinging about it at all and think it is funny because I have friends in the police and sometimes crowds of them look over the truck and no one has said anything.

The only thing I have been Whinging about this week is the registration on a Hilux is now $583.3 for a year.

Back home its based on number of engine cylinders...my mate pays $800 for his 80 series, the safari would be the same. Still when i worked it all out taking in RUC, rego, insurance, fuel costs, servicing costs, it would be about $2K cheaper to run my truck in Oz. It would be highly illegal of course.

It went up at the same time they put motor cycles up.

The ACC levy is now 467.08 so that accounts for most of it.

It only applies to any thing with a deck that is now considered a commercial vehicle so your Safari is still a little over $400.

A bloke up here runs a 2 wheel drive Hilux flat deck to work and is highly pissed off.

Agreed with the crap of expense of a running a diesel. Funny how the government wants us (NZ) to be seen as eco friendly, but tax the shit outa people who do. Any why the deal of tyres outside of the guard? Its a WOF requirement by the sounds of it, but why is it a WOF issue?
