Any more Progress??

No I am not doing anything to the Hilux at the moment. I am going to the Westcoast on Dec 27 for 7 days 4 wheeling to blow a few cobwebs out.

In the mean time I am working full time doing a nut and bolt restoration on my 1949 Landrover.



This weekend I am hoping to get the diffs back under.

Years ago when the series landrovers were in the Nelson club , I have seen them chug up steep clay fire breaks on 650x16s where turboed cruiser's and safari's didn't make it.

It may even embarrass My Hilux.

I have been fitting the motor back in my Landrover today and it reminded me why they perform so well.

Notice how far behind the front axle the motor is and once the gearbox goes on behind that as well all the weight is between the axles



A Hilux has the motor centred over the front axle which make them too light in the rear end and cutting them off is a mistake because it only makes them lighter and that is why they will not perform like a Landrover.

Richard, you have posted photos in a public forum that will only bring 4WDing into more disrepute , what message are you trying to convey to the PC public . The Highway Patrol officer that stopped you for tyres protruding past the sides of your WRECK should have RED CARDED you there and ordered your WRECK to be towed away and CRUSHED the same as they do to the Boy Racers that flout the LAW , ONE LAW FOR ALL I SAY. Are vehicles with dents now classed as unroadworthy?
I'll be in Gentle Annie from the 28th untill the 3rd with family, otherwise I would have been keen to help with some track clearing/forming
