would that also restrict small amounts of water getting through the filter as it sits off the bottom of the box?
love checkin out your work mate
Thanks.
Well nothing really. Id imagine a small amount would get sucked through the filter. It's pretty easy to monitor through the Perspex lid.
Much the same as any other snorkel set up.
That truck is back in this week for some barwork so Im keen to have a look and get some feed back from the owner as I haven't seen it since I did the job.

Did you get any feedback about the airbox from this guy mate?

Everyone seems pretty happy with them. The last one I made on the Tomcat I reduced the amount of cap screw holding the lid down. I the best of my knowledge there aren't any water issues, however I have thought about putting a 3/4" ball valve at the bottom to drain any water.

Been doing a little on Robs Prado the last week. When we changed the rear diff housing to the Trailgear housing the pinion became centred instead of off set, sooo Rob whipped out the 5 spd and put in an auto. Centre output, problem solved. However the Prado x member would'nt work so this is what happened...............
Bit of planning and marking out

Whipped up some fish plates with captive nuts.

There seems to be a mentality to build all off road trucks like a hummer to stand an atom bomb. This adds heaps of weight which makes them less capable. Trial trucks do the exact opposite and try and reduce weight.

This is somewhat true Richard. I believe you can build truck a lot lighter if the owner is the builder that way you know how much you can push things. However the majority of my customers arn't fabricators and thrash their trucks hard. I'd rather over engineer components than have my customer's call me to say something has broken. The extra weight would be marginal, say the difference between a full tank and half tank of fuel. I also understand power to weight but club trucks don't need to be on the cutting edge of competitiveness, they need to be strong.

dont see to many trials trucks driving under there own power at the end of the day.
agree with both comments, and that is to build it for the purpose intened.
i personally would over engineer that look at the weight issue.
had a winch truck with a hydro winch, would of added 150 kgs plus weight over an electric 8274, but it was quick and reliable.

Yea spot on if i was to fab for someone else i would always over engineer it but for myself i like to push the boundries and drive accordingly well thats my new theory for the new truck.

Kinda disagree with you there bob. Almost all drive on the trailer at the end of the day. Most that don't have usually fallen down a hill a little too hard

I have been watching the videos of Wanganui trials last weekend on facebook of the spectacular rolls and most just drove away. Mitch Seymour had an awesome roll down the hill until a tree stopped him with his navi going to hospital but the truck survived.
Sav wins a lot of winch challenges without extra weight so why make a light weight truck equal to a big Nissan.
That is my 2 cents worth
Cheer Richard

I was marshaling at the Deadwood a few years back when Mitch rolled it and it was bought back down the hill on the end of an excavator bucket, apparently bout 40k worth of damage and some weeks back at Howats
