Regarding it being crushed it is safer and in better condition mechanically than any any truck on the forum so the cop couldn't order it off the road.

What people seem to forget is that the body work of a vehicle with a full ladder chassis has almost next to no relevance in terms the over all structural strength of the vehicle. Obviously certain structural damage to the cab such as deformed pillars and doors that don't open and close properly are a safety issue.

If something of structural significance is damaged, chances are the vehicle will be without all its glass or unsecured doors, i.e it will is glaringly obvious and would never be given a WOF in that condition. For example a bent "A"pillar from a close encounter with a tree or roll over will always be accompanied by a missing front windscreen, a front door that won't open/close and possibly missing door glass. Obvious.

The majority of panel damage your average club 4x4 sustains is purely and simply cosmetic.

Yours doors can be concaved and your sills flat(no side intrusion on most older ladder chassis vehicles), so long as the open and close properly.

All four corners of the vehicle can be smashed, but so long as the required lights are in place and working, its not and issue.

You get the drift??

Where are you staying in the Gentle Annie because we will probably be in the area at some stage.

I'm going to Reefton on the 27th dec until around 2nd Jan and we will probably be up the Snowy river rd.

We will be going through the Chasm so will be in the Staircase and we may do the Alexanda Mine and we may take a trip in the Upper Grey to the Robinson so I will keep an eye out for you.

Seeing the issue of dented trucks is raised. I am quite happy not to post any more pics but the truck is going to stay exactly as it is.

New tracks don't come about by giving into all the PC people of this world who say we should have shiney's. That is the weak approach.

New tracks come about by bush bashing and then cutting them and that is why a lot of the coast trucks are smashed up like mine.

A friend of mine got stopped on the coast by 2 trampers who told him he had no right to be driving a 4 wheel drive on the track. He reminded them that he cut that track and that was the only reason they were there and to get out of the way.

Sav said to me the other day " isn't it about time I open up another track " So at Xmas we are going to look at it.

I might have a dented truck and while everyone is complaining about access I have heaps of tracks on private farms that I haven't even driven yet so the greenies can get stuffed.

That is my final word on the matter and if the moderators don't like it they can delete it.

Totally agree with you Richard. I absolutely love opening up tracks. going to re-open a few of my old ones back home when i go back next year. Looks like another dented truck coming up for me.

Hey Richard,

We'll be staying in "The Beach Cabin" at Gentle Annie just north of the Mokihinui. We're there with my Mum, brothers, sister and their family's. I was always the passenger in my brothers Suzuki 4wd's as a teenager, mainly central Otago, so I hope to be able to sneak out for a day to return the experience (but don't want to ruffle feathers). Generally just a relaxing time planned thou. I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled.

I'm looking forward to seeing the photos and videos of your trip, including any new dents. Do you remember each incident, where/how you did all or most of your dents? I remember all 4 or 5 of mine

The Hilux also got a christmas present this year in preparation for our annual Westcoast trip. Andy and Paul arrived this afternoon

For the 1st time in a couple of years I gave it a vacuum out so I thought it would be worth a photo.

I have just got back from the Westcoast and if you thought my Hilux was rough before, you want to see it now.

Paul, Andi and myself did a 4.5hr return trip through the Chasm track and this is the result

nice richard!! as i read and you started with the aerial, thought to myself, meh, not so bad.. nope.. pulleys etc tends to be a tad more severe! well done..

hope to take my junker thru the chasm some day..

Well i dont feel so bad about doing a door, two front fenders and a rim. Iam happy we went in befor the big dump.
oh and a rear wheel bearing and steering box once i was home.
What did you think of the track at the mo do you think much was changed from the rain??

Hi Steve

I don't think the track was damaged too much by the rain. It wouldn't have been much worse than when you went thru. It was washed out by the Alexander on the flat before the Grey so I bushed bashed a new track thru the bush around it and broke the aerial.
I ripped the snorkel on a small bank with log lying across the top of it about half way up the Staircase side and did the door pillar dropping down the second bank into the chasm.

We were trying to make a good time so that accounted for a bit of the damage. A great day was had by all.

This is the Grey river right across the valley at Stillwater. No one was crossing so We went thru but it was quite scary being pushed on a crossing hundreds of metres long and about 1 metre deep for a while. Janet was filming straight ahead and you will see the river turning us on an angle.

thats where i punched my guard and dented my snorkel as well..
looked soft but had a nasty knob in the root mass..

pity we didnt get to go for a blat this time..

what do you plan to do with the body mate.
I have a surf body just chop the rear guards and you have a lwb surf with bugger all over hang.. lol

Hi Richard, good to see that West Coast Bush getting some of it's own back on you, never mind nothing that a bit of Cutting Paste and Elbow Grease won't fix , how did Pauls and Andys vehicles fare. I hope the Dogs carpet didn't get dirty.
