I been competing for 4 years and we still do dumb things! I do believe my little chassis bend early this year was pretty much driver error!!!!! All the modifications and extra HP just guarantees they are more spectacular
So I can guarantee you will all do some stupid things. Why else do you think I'm driving for 4 hours to marshal! The entertainment when things go wrong and tempers get up is sure worth it!

PS You will definiely get a penalty is you can wheelspin more than my truck, as that just wouldn't be cricket!!

Spent the Weekend there Well done to all the organisers , marshalls for a top job ,spent most of Saturday doing recoverys and saw some very interesting lines taken on some tracks ,Ben(Wopass) proved that a cruiser will still run on only 3 wheels after busting a rear axel and parting company with the truck but i will leave him to tell that story ,Congratulations go to Jeremy and Kerry for winning event ,and the Guys from the South Island for a close second ..

Thanks to the manukau club, the land owner, the competitors, marshalls and recovery crews, what an awesome event!!!!!!

Words can't describe it, the event was just spot on

Saturday went well for Ben and I, busted a shear pin on the 1st stage due to the marshall forgeting to tell us about a certain set winch point that we would have used rather than a tree of to the side of the track

We solved the problem with a heavier shear pin. We put in some ok times with minimum penalties, so where gettin onto the swing of things

The night stages were a buzz, i think we got the fastest time on the 2nd night stage. We had a bit of a bouce driving a hill that it was expected people would winch up.

Turned out that bouce tweaked the anti-wrap brace quiet badly. We had to reverse one of the bent joints to get it into a suitable state ready for the next day.

That bouce turned to have done more damage than we thought at the time

Excellent event, great tracks (need a Suzuki next time) and marshalls were all great (except the knot marshall, I need a new winch rope).

i only got hooted at once and that was on saturday on our last day stage ... that was for wheel spin

i think that you were very fair mate, a little bit of relocating is allowed from what i understand and a little bit of wheel spin is expected
all good in my books

there were a few tough calls that were made by marshals over the weekend but thats the rules so you just deal with it and have fun eh. not telling us there was a winch point at the top of our first stage on saturday cost us a DNF but then everone makes mistakes so you get on with the job eh.

was a wiked weekend and great event. big thanks to everyone involved. hope to see another one organised soon...

ben wasn't stuck so he could re aline for winch or safe climb out , wheel spin was abit but was moving forward at speed

Id like to clear this up as I was clerk of the course for the weekend. The start marshal will probably tell you if there is a manmade anchor point such as a tractor or of a winch extension has been provide, he probable wont point out if the manmade is a winch post, he will tell you if there are places you must not use as an anchor such as small pine trees and you must never winch of a fence post. The marshals around the stage are not supposed to pass on any information rule 26.5 other than safety issues. It is up to the competitors to find there own anchor points.

Realigning:
You will be allowed to realign as many times as you like anywhere within the bounds of the course “provided
you have full traction”. This is designed to allow you to pick and drive safe lines around the course, which is
good and sensible four-wheel drive practice. There should be no need for any driver to attempt any part of the
course in an unsafe manner. If in the process of realigning the marshal gives you one blast of an air horn, you are
“Deemed Stuck” and you must commence winching. If you fail to commence winching, you will be penalised.

To true. We're not tryin to start a shit fight, so keep that in mind when you read the rest of my post. Whats done is done, and we had a laugh about it when we saw the anchor point hanging off the tree

But:

It was said that, as this was a club event, if there was an absence of a suitable winch point we would be advised at the start of the stage of an assisted winch point, i.e an extention strop hanging off a tree that would be in reach of your average length winch rope.

I was busy tring to work out where we were going to winch from next, as there wasn't anything apparent with in reach of our rope, and we didn't have a ground anchor. Thats was when the marshal standing next to me called the main stage marshal, who then instructed him that there was a couple of extention straps off a tree to make it with in reach, and he had forgotten to advise us of that when we started. The straps were also hidden in the long grass and thistle, so unless you knew there was supposed to be one there you wouldn't have seen it.

Thats ok with us, we DNF'd and busted a shear pin because of it, but thats the luck of the draw when you end up first through a stage, everyone else that followed now knew the extention straps where on that tree and winched straight to it.

I was there on Saturday talking to as many people as I could and didn't hear any complaints. From what I saw the Manukau club did a really good job and should be comended for doing such a good job at there first attemp at this sort of event! They have a amazing site and I can't wait to be able to race there myself!!!!!

i have no problem at all with what happened, as pete D.B said luck of the draw and never mind, we still had a blast and im not having a go or dig at anyone as i know for a fact that we are all human and everyone makes a cock up some time. if we had known it was there it would have been different...would we still have finished satdays stages and won one of sat nights night stages... who knows might have not busted my axle and rolled it instead.... who knows

and really, who cares, what happened happened and nothing can change it so you smile and move on hoping that someone somewhere has gained knowledge from the situation.

was cool to meet you and all the other guys that i cant remember names for.. im shit with names, so bad i need to have mine on badges so i can remember it

It was an awesome event and a real credit to the guys and gals from the Manukau 4WD Club who did such a great job at a first-time event. The stages were very well set for this level of winch challenge and were tight and quite technical at times (which suited us and our truck to a tee!) and most winch’s were short and sharp giving those of us with electric winches a shot at the top spot.

We turned up with no expectations to win, we were there just to have a whole lot of fun. Our plan was just to finish every stage, no DNF’s, no penalty’s, no breakages – and if we could do that at a fast but comfortable pace then we thought we’d place alright in the end. We achieved that with only a few teething issues between the two of us, and only one penalty (purely driver error – I hit a peg). My newbie winch-man, Kerry, did an awesome job with no penalty’s and some pretty good calls.

It wasn’t until just before prize giving that I was told that we had placed 3rd after the Saturday stages and that I realised that we could well be in for a podium finish. I was just hoping to have beaten Gene and Justin from Rotorua, but to take out the top spot was a bit of a surprise and was the icing on the cake of an awesome weekend.

Big ‘thank you’s should also go to all our supporters and those that helped and encouraged us throughout the weekend, once again to the organisers, and also to all the competitors who we raced with – we enjoyed your company.
