4wd trials rules are as soon as a peg goes in the ground you cannot drive it if you are a competitor, however , getting competitiors to drive thru is handy sometimes before the pegs goes in, they will pick the best line, you can then shove a peg right between the tyre tracks, i would suggest driving it over the xmas break will bear no resembleance to race day conditions.

this is more aimed at a "fun" "event" rather than a full on trial, I use the term "event" loosely as its basically a normal "club" run, think of it as a club champs (which a number of clubs run internally) with teams.

Jerry , why are you on here posting about this event and how it is being run etc etc etc

When you started a plan to run a similar event at Rallywoods

Are you going to do your event at Rallywoods, you are you just gonna start something and not finish it as bloody usual

call it what you want, the fact is it is a competition, or if it is not now, it soon will be, once the hub goes thru the pegs the red mist will settle and the "event" will become a Trial!!!!

This sort of thing is my point exactly!!!!!!!

Do you guys even know what sort of event your running??

Your calling it a tough truck challenge......

But from every indication i have heard so far it sounds more like a club style fun trial.

Someone needs to sit down and type out a list of the type of things you are going to be doing.

For example:

ORE 24hr Tough Truck Challenge

Event will consist of:

Teams Recovery Sections

Team Time trials

Trials type hazards (total teams score counts towards result)

Bog run's/hill climbs where at least one vehicle from a team has to cross the bog/climb the hill by what ever means against the clock

Endurance stages consisting of a long course where as many laps are completed as possible by a team in a given time (2 hours or something)

(I'm trying to be helpfull, but still digging a bit too :P )

Hi DB,

We are currently working on all this at the moment. We went up and have marked out most of the tracks we want to use and believe me some of it will be hard (not saying braking stuff) but we dont believe it will be driveable. We are going up next month to put in Dead men (lots of them).

We do have tracks that fit your list, and this is all i want to give away at the moment as we want it to be a suprise for all the teams, but also a fun weekend. :)

The issue here is that after starting this thread, mainly to gauge interest, the whole thing has snowballed very quickly.

We were not prepared for the level of interest and the speed of which people threw up there hands so it may seem that there is not much thought or control over how this is being run or organized.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The committee is constantly in contact via PM, EM and MSN, discussing the details and structure behind this event.

Yes, entry's have closed on the 6 teams, this didn't go with the original outline but as I said, the level of interest was so high that we needed to act and form teams on a first come, first served basis. I am quite pleased with the way it has turned out as we have a mixture of teams from all over NZ entered as well as a wide variety of vehicles. We still intend to have extras incase any of them decide for what ever reasons, not to attend, and in fact have 2 vehicles and drivers already in reserve.

The committee has done a recon on Costa Plenty and a lot of the course is mapped out already. We will be going in again near the end of January to finalize the course and put in winching points. We will also be discussing a lot of points (including some raise here) and deciding on exactly how the event will be run.

Rest assured there will be a HUGE post afterwards advising all of the exact nature of the event.

If you have serious concerns over this event, please don't hesitate to pm myself or Ryan (wisard2)

Cheers
Dace.

Im Going to open myself up here for a right Flameing But is it wise to relax roll cage requirements with speed sections ,i would have thought that as an organiser you would be opening yourself up to all sorts of problems if it turns to custard for a truck or two ....Steve

Several things to remember here Steve, this is more a fun type event, not a full on, full blown National inter club event.

Secondly, the "speed" type sections are run IN the 'custard' you speak of, which are at the bottom of gully's where no harm can come about apart from becoming very severely bogged, or along a flat, muddy track where little speed of any concern could be achieved anyway.

I believe the custard he is referring to is, if a truck rolls on an obstical, stage traveling to a stage whatever and it turns to custard and there is no protection from a roll cage it could be a far worse accident than if there was a cage fitted.

On one hand you say he isn't going to be in "any" vehicle that is going to compete but then he says I will stay as Navi for the oil burners but wont be participating in any pre-driving"

Not trying to cause issues here I am just after some clarification, or is he only assisting with committee paperwork?

He won't be doing any driving or passengering before the event... ie, while they are setting up. Therefore he won't have an unfair advantage during the event.

thats wot I was gonna say

whos cares if hes seen the course

as ryan said it will channge overnight, so it won't be an advantage

after all the shit the organisors have been thru to get it this far and you lot are concerned that one person who wont be driving is gonna make them win the day.

get over it and let the guy help them set this awesome event up

he might get a complex, or at least think hes a god or something

How come every time someone like the wise wizard of woodville puts there own time into organising a good fun event and they get shot down.
lets get behind ryan and dace and support them in any way we can to make this event a success so we can enjoy it for years to come and iron out any problems in due course.
My help and support is available wheneva it is needed and as I will be driving I am happy to dig winch anchor points blind folded if need be.

exactly, sorry for the confusion..... i will be digging holes for posts, i will be running tape to block of tracks i will even drink beers..... but as for driving/passengering BEFORE the event i wont be doin that! and as has been mentioned before, costa changes overnight, and im blind as a bat... all i ever see is MUD!!!!

these sorts of events only happen because people like Ryan and Dace give up their time to do the behind the scenes work, and im excited to be a part of the team that will bring to you the best yet ORE gathering!!!!!!!

now, lets keep this on topic!
