Thats looking good man :D

Should be a mean looking cruiser when your finished, have you worked out what springs to use that will keep it from being 6ft off the ground? :?

I am contemplating a SOA myself as the spring locating holes in the perches are slogged out a bit, but I dont want it too high. :)

I'm going to do a SOA on mine eventually :? :? I'm in the same boat as you Aaron, I don't want to have snow on my roof all the time. The only way i have thought that would prevent this is to have the rear shackle mount going through the middle of the chassis rail as opposed to under it. Would be a bitch to line up but i'm sure it can be done. I'll keep you posted when the time comes

That sounds a bit complex but might be the way to go, I was thinking of taking a couple of leaves out to make a flat spring :D

i am going to be using a standard spring pack from a 70# front and 60# rear, removing and adding leaves where neccessary.. and as for height, havnt measured that yet but estimate somewhere round the 4 - 6 inch lift gain.. i likey.. :D

h2o mentions the 'mount through the chassis' idea... heres a pic..
Image

not dumb really, lowers the ride height a heap..

I think a combination of through the chasis mount and less leaves might be the go..

so its not going to be a rollova dayglo cruiser on 40's then??

Do a SOA and then lower it.. i know why but you do it cos.. i fall over lots..
I guess your also trying to say you are well endowed as you dont need to have a high truck to compensate......
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

there was a visit by dr certifier to dayglo today.. unfortunately i was stuck workin but luckily h2o was able to cover for me.. (cheers fella)

so wayne martin in chch here had a nosey over dayglo and was happy with the quality of worksmanship, (again cheers h2o) and gave all the chassis, diffs engine mounts, perches, spring hangers and front and rear bars the big OK

 hallalulah :!:

so next is to get the body mounts sorted on new rear bar (pics to follow)
and get the tub seated..

so now the build can progress.. sahweeeeeeeeeeetttttttt..... :!:

got the tub just sittin on the chassis last night..

Image

the rear will come up a bit when i put the slightly longer shackles back in and possibly an extra leaf or so aswell.. the front will lower a bit too when the rest of the body panels and crap go on, and a slightly longer set of leaf springs... thus bringing the tub back to level and shackle angles all lovely jovely..

Image

will have to get a big tyre on a rim to test out the new forming required for the rear arch.. the new location of the rear diff really stands out in comparison to where the original sat.. .......

Image

and lastly in my quick update, the rear diff from a 60 does have a bit of extra width huh?! excellent..

As long as you had some small flares to cover the tread at the top it should be ok, not sure about mud flaps though the rules have changed since I was doing wofs 4 years ago.

The trusty old Landcruiser lapped up all that i threw at it on the weekend and, like an asian at a sushi bar, justs wants more. So yes will most definately be in for the next trip. Hopefully have the tent waterproofed by then :? but by then it will be summer so we wont have any rain :)

ok, no pictures as i forgot the camera which is normally not like me...

got the front springs courtesy of shipping by billyvanboheffner, cheers alex..

gave them a sanding and then a coat of paint to 'freshen' em up a little.. light greasing between the leaves and put them onto the 40 and then goose chucked the greaseable shackles in the rear of the 40.. brought the back up to be damn near flat/level.. once the weight of the bonnet and side guards etc goes in, should be on target.. shot goose..

the other night h20 drilled the rear body mount holes in the new rear chassis rail.. thanks again to you guy.. we sorta nutted out (all be it very quickly) a hybrid steering wheel where the 40's and 60's become one.. 40's wheel and outer shaft, 60's inner and uni's with bearings usage out of the 60 too.. :| :thumleft: hopefully it'll come together ok.. might need to extend some parts of the steering shafts..

will get pics up soonly..

well, oopsy doodle..
forgot to take a pic of the body sittin on the body mounts properly and all lined up.. this photo is of the body moved forward by a few inches but ya get the idea of how level its sittin..heres the 40 sitting damn near close to flat with the 60 series rear springs and 70's fronts.. greasable shackles all round.. can add a leaf to the rear or front packs if needed later too..
Image
with a bit more weight from the bonnet, side guards, radiator and front on, it'll drop at the front a bit too.. hopefully..

the hybrid steering column.. 40's outer with the four hole flange cut off, bottom 3 hole from 60 ready to slot into the flared outer courtesy of the lads at magoo mufflers on riccarton rd.. put a slice in the flared bit and hey presto, ready to be bolted together with the 60's clampy thingy.. :)
Image

next is the spacer whatsit for the inverted steering arm and mount the power steering to the chassis and put crush tube through etc..

still loving the build..
