Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Looking good!
Another option for speedo recalibration is to print out a new face & glue it on.

A more dedicated graphics artist than me would be able to make something identical to factory look. Mine is close enough though.
Cheers

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Did think of that but I havnt got computer skills for that
And doesn't fix the other issue of the odometer,so I'd be paying for more ruc than I'm actually using if not recalibrated

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
used to be $250 for a physical ratio box from parrotts in CHC, just plug it in to the gearbox and the speedo cable in the back...

Done nothing lately to truck apart from recharge batteries went flat from sitting not being used or started for over a month
I decided to add some aux tail/brake indicator lights while im at it,my cage just block standard ones at certain angles.
Got a feeling probably fail on straight through exhaust,it's not real loud so will try my luck first because i really like the turbo spool sound out the exhaust lol
Not far now to d day

I was a bit worried about mine being too loud but the cert guy had no problem with it. Good luck!Lchundy wrote:Done nothing lately to truck apart from recharge batteries went flat from sitting not being used or started for over a month![]()

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Just saw this in at certifier..cage looks really good
modified surf, hardly drive it seem to keep modifying it....
Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Talked to cert guy today
Failed on few minor things
Speedo more accurate
Extend bumpstops
Flare to cover between wheel arch and bar work
Rear mud flaps
Exhaust 101.5 dB needs to be 92db
Wheel alignment sheet to check caster
Add rear reflectors to rear bumper (exo obscures OE reflectors)
So not too bad
Should get it sorted in couple weeks
Anybody know reasonable priced towing crowd to use get my truck from Hamilton to Auckland?
Needed a big transport trailer won't fit on regular hire trailer
Which is bit of a mission to organise and pick up.

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
When I rang about the cruiser he mentioned he still had to check other rims
Told him only got one set of rims to cert then he realised he was talking about your 4runner lol

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
After some ideas for couple things
Need to extend bumpstops 40mm
Wandering were to get a round rubber spacer same diameter as standard bumpstops
And what options are there in plastic/rubber for mudflaps?
Cheers

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Best of luck getting everything ticked off for the cert.
Truck mudflaps are fairly cheap at TWL & big enough that you can cut them down to whatever shape. Otherwise if you can find an engineering supplies outfit that does conveyor belting they'll often have a variety of suitable stuff & possibly cheap/free used bits.

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
For bump stop spacer how about a body lift block? People on trademe selling them in different diameters?
I used a length of conveyer belt to make my rubber flares and mudflaps

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Seen a engineering place loading up truck with conveyer stuff just down the road will go hit them
up.
If no luck there I go buy some truck ones
I'll ask those guys on trade me what diameters blocks they have.
Thanks guys
up.

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Was only a 20ishmm gap on most of front and tyres were only marginally sticking out
But cert man still wanted flares

Also I brought one of those speedo correction modules from jaycar, has anybody ever wired one of these in?
The easy option would be to wire in underneath but it's not waterproof so I'm wandering if the signal wire is routed behind glove box or somewhere easy accessible in cab.I don't want have to strip much to get to if I have to change setting later on

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
I just had a look at the instructions for it and you cave to cut the speed signal wire, I would do this behind the cluster then extend the wires out to where it is easy to get at and put the module there.
Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Ok cool will have a bit of a look for signal wire first and if no luck will do that

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Everything done on fail sheet except speedo
Have wired calibration module up as shown in diagram
And followed set up instruction but no go
After some more advice as this thing got me stumped
There's 3 wires coming out of trans one wire has 12v one wire is negative and 3rd one has around 5v(green with red strip)from what I found online this is the signal wire does this sound right???
Another thing that's happened is while trying different setting on module od light is flashing on off???
Seems simple reading instructions but module is not reckonising speedo signal.
Got me bit confused will triple check everything again tomorrow after work
Any electronic fellas know where I might be going wrong, last hurdle so pretty keen to get sorted

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Took me a while to find this as Marks 4wd dont have it on their website anymore:
http://www.sleeoffroad.com/installation ... FK2800.pdf
Has the info on which wires you need to an 80 series.
