real nice. I had one corner of the flange to grind off but otherwise perfect. Nice machining and cleaning up, equally sized ports and very nicely shaped runners all with a very similar ID and no nasty ridges or funny intersections.

excellent service too

sweet

run an intercooler bro. they are good at stopping bits of aluminum before they make it to the engine when cheap compressor wheels explode

DSR have a good reputation. will be great

Yep, just blind rivets. You could use counter sunk blind rivets to make it look better, but thats not booty fab

Speaking of Booty Fab, I should post some pic's of my ghetto as roof rack that matches the sliders sometime

So as you might have gathered, I brought some DSR Turbo gear.

Seems good from the bench inspection

Turbo:

Its a big fawker

Exhaust:

Compressor:

This is the DSR compared to the Garrett T03 i have kicking around:

Manifold:

Its pretty rough inside, a few gangly bits that would just love to eat exhaust wheel blades, and the casting around the ports was a bit rough:

I sent it off to spend the day at R.S Industries for a sand blast, some minor port work and die grinder treatment to tidy up the daggy edges and remove some of the loosing looking pieces of casting.

It looks mint now:

Thats a big compressor wheel. what sort of lag will you get from that? Where will the turbo be providing your boost with that setup, down low or midrange?

Its a whole lot of stuff based on the turbine and compressor blade trim A/R ratio's, as well as housing size's.

Apparently this particular turbo has desirable performance characteristics for the TD42.

This should be making max boost of 17psi at 2000rpm which is the engines sweet spot.

I will be dropping that to 8 or 10psi for reliability and to nurse the standard clutch for a bit.

hellooooooooo.

Nice stuff

If you think those ports are bad... you need to compare them to other chinese manifolds! beautiful in comparison
I got a supra manifold which had like 6 ports in 6 different sizes and shapes.

Mine got the die grinder treatment too- had to take it to work anyways to grind the flange to make it fit.

Okay cool. I guess outward appearances mean nothing with these things and its about the blade shapes, etc.

It definitely remains to be seen once its fitted, I am a little skeptical myself

Just as an aside from someones suggestion about intercoolers catching bits.

Why isnt there an filter/whatever added to engines with turbos to catch stuff should they fail? I would have thought it was a good idea. Even if it was an after market thing. Just have to over come the restriction on air flow I guess.

they don't fail that often at all. just seems like they do because you hear when they fail not when they dont fail... if that makes sense

I brought the same set up,internal gate,V Band

Only mock fitted,so I can do dump pipe and sort out intake bends/plumbing etc.(have broken exhast stud I need to fix)
if using the internal gate housing(adds approx 40mm to lenght of turbo) like we have the dump pipe needs to be quite tight.I have done mine well post a pic tomorro for you.

I have to rotate turbo core 90 deg also,so oil goes in the top and out the bottom(5min job at a guess)

I've been fighting with this V band thing :x wont say anything till the mist has gone

Keen for some more pic's and info Shane. Especially on rotating the core as that is something I had noted needed doing!!!!

As for the V band and dump pipe, shit that looks tight!!!!!!

Shame the turbo mounting point wasnt a little further forwards (one section over with short side to front) to give a little room at the back.

Tight steam pipe bends there (low radius turns) might be the only go... :?

Nice 8) ... may I suggest to make sure you use heaps of the correct antiseize for that stainless Vclamp thread. Stainless on stainless plus heat = thread bind then snap. Just a helpfull hint you may already know
If you break it... build it stronger.

just wonderin fella, would you want the oil feed on the bottom to ensure that cavity fills with oil but yet the drain will still flow it away once it 'flows over'..? or ya think it may blow through to the exhaust side and create plumes....?

Re: D.B's GQ Shorty

the core is designed to have the feed at the top and the drain at the bottom.

While the oil is inside the core it gets pulverised and it foams and increases in volume- hence the need for a small feed and a relatively huge drain. You do not want any additional oil pressure in there than that foaming provides.

also- on my truck (I had even less downpipe room) i had to fab an adaptor plate for the turbo (TD06 flange). At the same time as changing the flange shape I also made it rotate the turbo about 30 degrees clockwise on the flange to angle the compressor housing towards the engine and the exhaust housing away from the manifold.

I still need some squiggle to get the downpipe round the manifold but nowhere near as much as you guys currently need.
