I thought I had better put a photo of the Hilux on here before it gets smashed up again at Reefton and is reasonably straight.

I have spent the day fitting tie downs for the chainsaw and toolbox

We are just back from our Reefton Xmas trip with Nigel Harris, Andi and Paul Delis
A video clip of Nigel and Paul dropping into Bulletproof Chasm. There is a boulder at the top now that throws you sideways

Video 2 Xmas 2011
The highlight of my Xmas trip was driving up petrol hill.
Some of the Nelson winch challenge marshalls said I wouldn't be able to drive it now since the last winch Challenge because the rock face is higher and the log across it stops a run up.
Getting over the log was a problem and when I reached the top I climbed the rock on the left and nearly rolled over so I had to shut off and go quietly
Here is the proof. Going up and coming back down

We all drove over the log
in the rain but winched the rest due to safety. I reckon Tim would have done it in the rain with his V8 hilux trailer queen, I tried to egg him on, but he had a little sense then.

We did have bog holes as well. This one is above the cycle in the tree track
The Hilux only just made it through with 2 goes and Andi got stuck. The Simex's are slightly higher than the Silverstones

Hi Shane
Are you talking about Paul or Andi ?
Andi on the Handbag has Silverstone 35x11.5 and Paul on the Prado has the latest BFG 35x12.5s and loves them as an all round tyre.
In the rain Paul drove straight up the slab Hut ruts with no problem
My personal view is that BFGs are better at Reefton and Simex/Silverstones are better at Westport

Sorry I hadn't noticed your post. The answer is no even though I probably should have beadlocks so I could go down to Zero pressure.
I have 7 inch rims and tyres fitted with no soap and tractor tubes and run as low as 5 lbs without too many problems.
On petrol Hill I had around 5lbs pressure and with no problems but then I had an anti climax because in the bog hole at the bottom of Petrol Hill I was the first to be stuck for our Xmas trip.

The Abyss is on a farm at Tophouse by Lake Rotoiti run by Alistair Nicholls and his business is "Anything Mechanical".
Alistair has set out a few 4x4 tracks that are used by the Nelson and Blenheim Clubs for competition. For a small fee others can use them as well and a few clubs from ChCh have been there .

On our Xmas trip to Reefton the alternator stopped working. I have now removed it only to find the Supercharger mounting bracket has broken so today I have strengthened it up and reshaped it as well so all should be good from now on. Time will tell

I have just upgraded my computer and software so videos are sharper now.
From our pioneering xmas 2011 trip up the Alexander to the "Powerhouse" this is what the remains of the powerhouse looks like. This is also as far as you can drive.

Is that really as far as you can drive? Just beyond that rock you are standing on is where it starts to look like it would get interesting

Hi Lawrence.
I have noticed alot of the old videos are not working so I will reload them. I moved things in photobucket a couple of years ago and I think the link has been lost.
So here is a complete video of driving the Tailings hill climb from the bottom.

I like the fact he is pullin 4 pound of boost at idle, all that torque of the line

I have now replaced all the videos up to page 35 and from pages 62-70
1 advantage of the Supercharger is that you can shut off to regain traction and pull away again because of the continuous boost.
The other real big advantage I have over turbo diesels with Autos is that I launch very quickly from a stand still at the bottom of a steep climb like Petrol hill or Tailings etc. I can Rev at half throttle and the moment I drop the clutch the front rises and the rear wheels dig in for good traction and I launch off the mark.
I will work on replacing the links to the other pages tonite. I din't realize the links had been lost
Cheers Richard

Hate to say it Richard, but your prob better off putting all you video links in one post here now, as 70 odd pages is an epic amount to get through!
