And for ones who have just done the Westport Challenge.

This is what the track down the hill from the skid site to the little Totara river on the Tailings track looked like in Aug 2006

These are good vids and I get your point Jim, but Richard please keep posting, this site lost you for to long so stay with us now, man you have to Tread Lightly ( get the pun ) on this site. As for the before and after vids you have to put it in to perspective, the original tracks on the West Coast were in the main put in for forestry and mining and these groups are experts at damaging the terrain, luckily for us the West Coast has the best regeneration system in the country and that's why the tracks have needed reopening. Way back before the Chasm was the Chasm a group of us did the Waipuna road through to the Grey now known as the Bulletproof Chasm Track, we took four vehicles through and it hadn't been driven for years, well by the time we got all vehicles through I don't think you could have done more damage with a D7, after three years we decided to revisit the track ------ what track ? we struggled to find a track to follow, parts of it were already overgrown. I say get out there and enjoy it, nature can do more damage than any vehicle so lets

GET DIRTY,

FITZY.

Hi Fitzy and Jim

Yes I understand what Jim is saying also but these are not new Videos. They are all over the place in this thread already and it was suggested that instead of people having to search the entire thread to find them it would be better to have them grouped so that is all I am doing.

Regarding tracks on the West coast it is the heavy rainfall doing most of the damage.

The force of water to move this baby and plant it here from miles away last year has done a lot more damage in a matter of minutes than a hundred trucks could do in a life time

I am out of touch with the current state of the track.

The Clutch in the hilux is slipping at the moment with the supercharger turned on so until I fix that I am not doing anything.

Before long I intend to take a trip thru from the Staircase and hopefully lower myself backwards into the Chasm on a winch down stream from the ramp without the engine running so I don't run out of oil pressure.

JR is going thru next week so he can give a trip report on the current condition.

Cheers Richard

Hey, a mate of mine is setting up a charger on his 3L, just wondering what pulley sizes you are running? Can't find them in your 84 pages,
Cheers, Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

The bottom pulley is 215 mm and the top one is 125 mm giving a boost close to 10lbs

Mine is a 5L so you may get a little more boost on a 2.8

If you are going to turn it on and off it is very important to relieve shook loading with a spring otherwise you will smash your crankshaft pulley

Cheers Richard

Cheers Richard,
He's going to run it permanantly, be interesting to see figures, but he's struggling to find a 215 pulley. Where did you sorce yours?
I would have a charger on mine yesterday if I could fit it in, my coilover shock hoops limit my engine bay space dramaticly.

Hi Jeremy

You probably won't find a suitable 215 mm pulley. I made one up by using the original air-con pulley with a turned ring about 30mms deep welded over it and then having it balanced.

Hi Richard
i was just wondering as i see you post alot regarding hiluxs being usless when the backs have been cut off them, What sort of weight is your truck overall and over axels just for comparision. Cheers Leigh

Hi Leigh

I am not saying all Hiluxs are useless with the back cut off. Ones that have had the engine moved back behind the front axle are fine.

The ones that are useless with back cut off are the standard ones with the engine right over the front axle.

Regarding mine, it weighs around 2040kg all up with complete recovery gear including chain saws, pulley blocks, complete tool boxes, picks, axes shovels, etc etc

I have weighed the front and rear axles separately many years ago but I can't remember now. What I do know is that if I don't have extra weight behind the rear axle it is useless.

Sorry I can't be more help

Cheers Richard
