Re: Hilux trailer queen
Hi Tim
I have obviously upset you and a lot of others by making comments about your truck. So I want to apoligize to you for saying anything about it.
From now on I have decided not comment on anyones truck again and just do my own thing and then I won't get in trouble with anyone. In recent years I haven't commented on the forum very much at all anyway because I know most 4 wheel drivers disagree with my views.
Don't lay low and keep posting about your truck because others like it
All the best Tim
Cheers Richard

Re: Hilux trailer queen
from where im sitting Richard its not your particular views on anyones particular truck..
Its your constant dribbling on about trucks being too high, unlike yours, having the ass end cut off, unlike yours, having a v8, unlike yours, not being diesel, unlike yours, having a turbo instead of a supercharger, unlike yours, being a heavy Nissan, unlike yours, doesnt flex that well, unlike yours..... should I keep going?????
When does 'opinion' just become friken repeatative
heard the term 'each to their own'???

Great to hear you had an awesome weekend away, The pics are great.
Did anyone go down through the gully? or did you all take the high road exiting the chasm?

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

I was in a group of 4 trucks, we all avoided the gully due to not even arriving at the Clarke till 1pm so was a real late start, just as well we kept out of the gully as one vehicle had a slight winch problem, and one vehicle popped a bead so was getting on by the time we crossed the Grey.

The lux is by far the most capable truck i've had over the years, and the most fun

Tom (middle boy) came with me, Kath hasn't been out much at all with me in 4x4's since I got stuck at Seddonville in the bush till 3am...she turned 30 in there that night

Perhaps a good thing

Good stuff Tim!
What do you think makes it better than the old supra surf? More power? Coils?
Cheers,

Yes coils (linkaged) and power (having enough to actually clear the treads) really help but I guess a vehicle becomes a total package, light weight vehicle, weight centralised, biggish footprint, beadlockers, lockers, strong drivetrain, full rollcage and of course not a daily driver allows you to have a heavier right foot, having said that you still have to be realistic about what is achieveable as to avoid drivetrain damage.
And a real BIG thanks to Westie (Rokhound) for loaning me his little work truck for the weekend or i'd have stayed at home.

Re: Hilux trailer queen
Great thread read every Page.
I just brought a similar set up. Vp5l v8 power 4x4 trailer queen.
I was contemplating diesals etc. and some one said to me I'm not here long. So f it. And I brought a v8 no turning back love it.
So if you are contemplating buying an awsome rig don't. It is sooooo fun.
Love the rig. Keep the mods comming.

Re: Hilux trailer queen
Ha yes cheers for the info on the indicators they worked a treat
It's up at Tom's getting a few things sorted, I bought some long travel shocks for the rear and put in adjustable shock mount I built last year but had to limit the travel as the eyes on top links at the diff weren't flexing well and the springs would fall out
So I wanted them tig welded and needed a ramp so just as easy to get Tom to do it.
The list for Tom;
rear top links ends replaced
better spring retainers at bottom
do something with the spring tops to retain or dislocate/relocate
get as much travel out of the rear end as poss (with existing shocks)
Replace front pan hard and new bigger o'halloran joints
add a steering dampener (i've nearly lost my thumbs a couple of times)
List for me when it get's back;
Replace pitman arm, has one of those IFS adapter's on it so putting on a TG one with 80 series ball joint.
new powersteer pump
front wheel bearing
and a bit of TLC after a hard year
And a couple of Al's pics from xmas/new year hopefully him or Bob will post or send me more
