Only prerequisite is that it is a 300tdi, due my huge collection of engine spares, and all the new bolt on stuff my current engine has.

Yup, got unloaded and dragged back into its parking spot in the carport at about 2pm. Bloody good going from Dion at Waikato Towing. Would recommend him if you ever end up in this unfortunate situation

I'm 99% sure after a good look today that with out a new chassis that's the end of the road Dusty. But all things are repairable if you throw enough $$ at it, so who knows what the outcome maybe.........

would another model LR chassis fit? eg cab chassis or ex army one?

Engine mount on chassis is 200mm further rearward than the mount on the engine. Hard to see, but its that torn rubber looking thing on the chassis, and the other half is under the gold colored nut. Ripped it in half much!!!!



Time to go underneath and find out why

Hard to get a photo of this one, but its severely kinked just behind the bump stop. Ouch.


So with the chassis kinked up that much, and front diff moved back, something in the drive line had to give, so I went hunting. Pretty easy to spot this one!!

It's popped the transfercase off the back of the gearbox



Also looks like its given the chassis a tweak right back at the A arm mount


So yah, not looking good at this stage.

Let me know if you find anything in the south parts wise that you need collected or transported north. BJ Auto's in Dunedin have a small yard of Landrover things - wrecks etc, I don't take much notice of what type.

whats the story with removing all the non insured add ons that you've been and put on post insuring the vehicle?
does the insurance company take ownership once a claim is applied for or once it has been accepted?
just as I drive past turners yard a lot and the pranged cars often have odd wheels and most of the good bits stripped off them that weren't standard.

The car did have 3rd party insurance, but it will be declined because he was a Learner driver just turned 16, driving his mates mums car with 3 of his mates in it without a suitably qualified person sitting in the passengers seat (full drivers license, held for 2 or 5 years or what ever it is). Even then he still would have had to have been a named driver because he was under 25, so no insurance for them.

Thing that guts me the most is that because of his age he can't be charge with careless driving causing injury.

I suspect all that's gonna happen is that he will go to youth aid or what ever it is, get some counciling, and pay my insurance company back at $2 a week. You just know he has no concept of the the consequences of the injuries he has caused and what the loss of our truck is going to cost, even with reasonable insurance cover, not to mention the countless hours I have spent chipping away over the last two years rebuilding it bit by bit ready for a overland tour of Australia next July.

insurance to cover liability is sometimes lost on youth.
I think you are able to go to some sessions with the young chap to explain the impact of his actions.
Hell if I was 16 and did that to someone's truck i'd still be mowing their lawns and cleaning the new one once a week.
This is a really good time to see if his moral compass points in the right direction.
If you do get to do the victim impact thing through youth aid and he's remorseful enough and local. get him helping you.
Pretty bitter pill to swallow I know but at least it points another kid in the correct direction, not letting him develop an insolent FTP attitude.
Not to mention free labour.
We got burgled when I was at high school and my old lady did a similar thing with this young girl (a neighbour)that had broke in and pinched a heap of our clothes etc,
she was actually a good kid and ended up at uni when she probably would have been drinking piss pregnant and on the dole by now if the old lady hadn't asked her to do some gardening with her to repay for the damage.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the insurance companys go the parents of both kids for liability one supplying a learner with a vehicle without supervision and the other for pranging the car.
Parents are responsible for there kids actions to a point.

man I bet it would be hard to describe the crap feeling you guys have right now, with the injuries to the little one and sarah and also yourself and the loss of the LR which was the ticket to oz next year. I know you only have a year but given the speed of your builds hopefully youll be able to make it. Youll be doing everything a second time so the build should be quicker by default, and then add your build speed on top and youll most likely have one chopped out in 6 months

Re- Insurance claims and who owns what on a vehicle, the advice I was given when I had a claim with OLD SMOKEY after a will it be written off or repaired accident. ----- Get in touch with insurance company, have a meeting with the person who is going to handle your claim and the assessor, be up front as to what extras you have got or have fitted to vehicle, let them know what could be put back to standard or how the vehicle was when first insured, it's the old story get on side and hopefully they will work with you. This is what happened in my case. Do not remove anything from vehicle as it will or could give the insurance company an OUT. I came to an agreement with my claims manager and assessor that if the vehicle was to be written off that I would have the opportunity to put it back to standard. (it was repaired),

Either way, I'm here if you need a hand to build up the new one... I'm looking at a few months of nothing while I wait for back surgery so anything I can build for ya just holla

Re the insurance you will be all good as a x insurance sales/claims person you will be looked after.

What they normally do if its written off is the buy back is 50% of the write off value. This can be negotiated from there though so if you want to try and get it cheaper but that's normally where they start.

Dave (4x4Amb) is the legend who organized an inpromtu working bee last night and they spent until 11pm helping me pull all the cool bolt on bits off the wreck. He drew the short straw and got given the task of trying get the winch out from between the mangled chassis rails. He didn't win, porter power time

As a fellow Defender owner your latest pics are heart breaking, especially seeing the amount of time you've put into her. I hope you are able to salvage something from the old girl and perhaps rebuild her. As by chance a few months back I bought some 110 door liners off a guy up Whangeri who asked me if I knew anyone interested in a 110 chassis. I'll look up his details and see if he still has it.

seems pretty legit get a local round to have a geez at it.
theres a couple in the photo's so may well be business vehicles that have been devalued a bit and may not want to pay much secondary tax upon sale hence low start price?
