Re: Terranosaurus Obituary

Post by slide »

Thought I seen that type in earlier pics.
Just photoshopped (paint  ) up this mean pic.
Image

I've got one installed on my s13, for the price they're a good buy, but I found to get proper control over boost I had to remove ball and spring inside. That caused it to go unstable as, anywhere from stock to almost freeboosting.
Removed ball/spring and bingo. Good as. However then I couldn't raise boost enough, so I brazed fitting up, and drilled 2mm hole through to restrict air flow through. That means that the bleed is in effect, a bigger bleed so I can get desired boost. Probably would be better to weld a piece of steel tubing or similar and place just before fitting as controller isn't made from great material so hard to weld easily. Must get around to getting boost sorted on my wagon. still running stock boost :?
See how ya go

Thanks Nath for that (good work in photoshop). Controller has only been playing up since it got a mouth full of Woodhill water/mud/sand before i fitted the snorkel. i'll give it a clean tomorrow and blast out with compressed air.
Anyways, i was going to update the thread as quite a few new bits have gone into it recently.

I was lucky enough to pick up a complete front diff,cv's, tie rods, draglink, cross members, upper and lower control arms both sides, steering box, idler arm and shaft, stubs, rotors and calipers for the huge sum of $40
The diff turned out to be 4.8 as well :D
Real pleased as they were out of a late model Terrano (95)
Image

Image

The spare front diff was only spare for a week before the demise of the current one
So while I was fitting that diff, I changed the cv's, steering box, idler arm, pivot shaft, outer tie rods, stubs and hub assemblies to suit the newer, larger outer spline count. I got to use some manual locking hubs that have been on the shelf for a couple of years.

As it turned out the power steering box had been unwell for some time as now the steering is much lighter and I can turn the steering wheel while stationary.
Had to replace the gearbox mount too. I think this one was a bit past it.
Image

While test driving the up-grades on patrol at Woodhill the turbo spat the dummy. That's what you get when leaving it on free-spool for a few weeks.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Hello I'm new to here and have had a great read of your Terranosaurus write up, its been very good for seeing what others get up to. I have a 94 d/c navara with a lot of simala mods to yours, have gone the way of 2wd navara steering havent tested it yet but i will.. Question what size tyres do you run off road (I run 33x12.5x15 and feel its half my problems) and do you do anything differant to alignment specs? Have had troubles in the past climbing steep slops bunny hoping in front.
Thanks
Curtis

Truck has
50mm body lift
3"calmini lift kit (set lowish)
Calmini steering idler brace
2wd centre rod and inner tie rods
top mount i/c
winch bar (I built)
removable tow bar (I built)
Roll bar
uhf
boost gauge
Snorkel
altered air cleaner box to house k&N long cone filter
AVM hubs

Welcome Curtis.
Sounds like you have the right set-up.
I run Simex 32x9.5 R15 (33.4 real size)
Only real differance between a Navara and a Terrano is, I don't have cart springs on the rear......coils rule
What part of the world you in?

Thanks.. I'm in Central Otago Thought that must be the size simexs your running mite have to flog off the maxxis and start investing in some simexs. I did think of fitting terrano rear end but need the cart springs to carry fire wood coal etc home to fight off the cold of winter.. best part of central is winter = ice snow and greasy tracks. It is using 720nissan leaves so is a bit softer than the d21s.
was going to add photo but theyre to big dam it

Thought i had better update the obituary. After a few events like Mudfest, many Woodhill Patrols and beach runs, i still can't kill this thing  Engine still going mint, turbo and front diff still intact. Have picked up few extra horses with all the stickers
Nothing really to report, except the destruction of both wing mirrors at Woodhill today :(
Here is the video of the left hand mirror. Oh yeah, note the size of the ruts because of the huge tyred, wheel spinning, hoons
Used to be able to blitz up this climb, but not today

How close are your front suspension arms to the bump stops when it is standing still?
I had the bunny hoping problems, but the torsion bars were cranked up to far. After adusting them down to a 15mm gap, new shocks, all is well.

Gee, I wonder whos advice that was
Bigest mistake is to crank torsions up too far.

So, on with the obituary.
After lots and lots of beatings, T2 now looks like this;

Image

As it turned out T2 was a rusty POS. Just needed a few nudges to get the space invader foam to fall out
Now it looks like this;

So, enter T3

No hurried build this time. Have to do a gearbox swap first off as it has noisy bearings
Watch this space.

once you've brought all the 3 doors models in the country guessing you will then buy 5 door models and weld up the back doors
Current 4wd: Surf Kzn185 ssrg factory Intercooled (yet to start build)
Past 4wd: toyota surf ln130, coil sas, 1uz v8 build

maybe add some side bars or a exo ? poor wee thing, all dented. just out of interest do the three doors offer something that the five doors don't ? possibility of the rear arches have more room or easier to shape ? lighter ?

Wax, sure do if you include the ones installed, 3 in stock
True, the country will run out of 3drs.....eventually
Pete, that's the plan
Jono, even if i weld the back doors, they still longer. 3 doors shorter chassis and body 8)

Will have to change the name of the thread from,
Terranosaurus Obituary to Terranosaurus' Obituaries for all the grammar buffs
