As simple as, after removing the tyre a) undoing the axle nut after removing the split pin, b) taking a 13mm ring spanner and undoing and removing the brake caliper c) sliding the rotor off d) taking the same 13mm ringy and removing the 3 hub bolts d) gently seperating the hub from the yoke with a hammer e) sliding the old axle out f) sliding the new axle in g) repeating in reverse a - d. (you might find it easier to leave the tyre on when undoing the axle nuts, some need a fair bit of persuasion)

Each side should take about 40 minutes.

If your really keen, grab some of the Rugged ridge/alloy usa external axle tube seals and pop them in as well. (they dont work with CV'd axles)

Im heading to New Plymouth July 22 for my annual "boys away/hangover without the girls" weekend with 4 old schoolmates, and heading over to Brisbane this week for a week away with the bride and lad, so any 4x4 trips 'tween now and then aint gunna happen.

The bar worked out ok. Not entirely happy with the finishing, things didnt quite line up 100%, but not a bad effort for something built on a garage floor I didnt think.

All in all, im happy with the final result of how the truck has finished up though. Went for a drive with a bloke 2 weeks ago who's got a willys tub on a patrol chassis/diffs and a 350 chev up its butt. I walked 1/3 throttle in a couple of parts that he was full revs and mud flying while trying to get up on 2nd attempt. Bugger all to do with the driver though, all about the wheelbase and where them tyres are sitting.

xj you say no trips til July but how does a day trip sound next Monday/Queens Bday up thommos?

Completed my 3.5" lift today, making up a front tow hook and getting mud tyres on 15" white steelies fitted this week so all go for the long weekend, no pics yet as it gets dark so early.

First outing after lift and tyres, front driveshaft shat itself, just as well I had a spare in the back. Am now on the lookout for a driveshaft off an XJ.
Lift gives a bit of driveline vibration. Front tyres rub on full articulation when turning, no sway bars fitted. The kit is said to run 31s but I'm gonna need to cut the front guards. No worries with the rear.
Cost all up is $5400, can't complain

So you still doing thommos tomorrow? Ill still be keen on heading up next sunday. (sadly we have to leave queensland tomorrow).

Outback 4x4 will have a front driveshaft off an xj. Should be about 125.00.

Truck looks good

Yep on 31s. Lift kit supplied a transfer case drop kit, looks to be about 1 and 1/4", I think to remove the vibration I'll need to go longer/adjustable upper control arms as the kit only supplied the lower ones. But they aren;t cheap lol.

Na we decided to flag thommos and do woodhill today instead. Just as well as my works mates Disco nearly spat one of the spider gears out of the front diff housing lol.
Yep keen for thommos next Sunday.
Flat mate will bring his XJ too.

And yeah.... My t/c is dropped. About an inch.

My 4.5 inch on 33's rubs on full lock too. Arb bar and guards might get a little trim too. Want to find an alternative to simply taking a grinder to the guards though. Might look into the cost of rolling them.

Erm, yeah im having flashbacks, hows the t/c looking? Hope the driveshaft didnt destroy it

Yeah I was just gonna take to the guards with an angle grinder and cut the lip off at the arch then rivet in some rubber flares to hide it. I'll re fit the front sway bar so that should help also. Without them it drives worse than an old Kenworth and that is saying something lol.
Managed to change that driveshaft out before she let go, was clicking badly on the smallest articulation after the first mud bog so didn't take any chances.

Shouldnt cost too much to fix, bloody guard will cost more than the t/c. Time for some steel flat fenders too maybe.

Coop, theyre utterly horrid without the front swaybar on. Re cutting the guards, id prefer to have a lip left so theres no sharp edges left to potentially cut tyres and to also leave a bit of structure to it
