Yeah... still waiting for my beadlocks
Hanbrake cable hangs a bit low... but oh well
Image

Modified original handbrake leaver mount plate, moved curved tube piece. Will make another at some stage, and move cable attachment point back towards pivot point of leaver to enable more leaverage, as works with only 3 clicks but requires a lot of grunt

Digger's Brakes & Cables Ltd was bloody helpful, I recommend him.

Not as low as mine you've done a good job to keep them that high.

Are you still running the old nonturbo 71c Navara gearbox?

Was origanally a SD23 manuel. Using a TD27t 5 speed box. 5 litres in thru gearstick. Did have a little water in there when split. Will be adding an extra drain bung at the lowest point

Nice one, its quite surprising how sturdy the gearbox can be for a lighter duty unit. I guess an R50 or Mistral 5 spd would be the apple of your eye? It is for me - one of those plus the V6 transfer case and my drivetrains sorted...

One of us D21 nutters may have to go over to Aus for a gearbox buying trip...

There is an R50 gearbox on trademe but it is a FS5W71C. It got me all excited when I read the title, then I saw the pic.

It's not often we want a bigger box, but I would love one :D

Gearbox mount, strapped as I have torn 2 recently. Think it happens when skidding belly up a bank.
Image

Front gearbox seal let go. Got hot I think and spun in housing, appears to be in good nick. Hi temp sucker going in. Was also told last bearing change in gearbox to run new bearings with seals in. This doesn't allow the oil to drain back to boxfrom behind the nose cone housing. All bearings had no grease left in them, and were chokka fill of oil, dirtyish used looking oil. Will be running without bearing seals this time round and redline oil.

So... new clutch plate, new generation I'm told. More rivets, stronger all round
Image

Replaced reverse idler gear, reverse counter gear not the happiest, so turned it to run on opposite side of gear (smallest gear closest to you in pic). As it's offset, it ended up running more inline with idler. I just had to nick the raised tops off the shaft splines to allow it to go on. Unsure of why it wasn't like this in the 1st place, doesn't affect clearances with anything else that I can see. Tested all gear selections and looks ok, time will tell.

I have a brother in Perth, might see if he can throw one in his work container thats coming over later this year. Worth a try. Whats the number of this said stronger box? Is the std Terrano one FS5W71C? Do both gearboxs share the same transfer case? I'm getting confused on the interweb and struggling to find the info.

Apparently there the ones I want, a Mistral manuel or a QD32 manuel out of Navara or R50 Terrano

Hard to identify box from pic, but I emailed him asking about code on vin tag and he said "fs5r30a then other side hg46 ". It does have the right ribbing on bellhousing for the 'big-box' but hard to tell diameter of the housing.
If anyones keen I'd call that a pretty good price.

Yip, that the big one alright. Same price I paid for mine too. Will bolt straight on a TD27 with same flywheel and clutch. For any northerners or people that aren't afraid of some freight, I have a D22 QD32 box here with a jambed up transfer that will be for sale, but only for the next week or so.
$600 and it is yours. The only issue is getting a QD dual mass flywheel to suit the bell housing.
Sorry for the thread jack Jezza. Clutch plate looks good. What you need now is a "super" pressure plate to match it. Like this one. Check out the clamp force written on it when tested 8)

Cheers,

Yep, pressure plate sorted, been running a "heavy duty" one for a while now, Clutch Systems here in Chch uses a different diaphram spring. Very happy with how it performs.
Cheers all on box info,
Pete the Saf box wouldn't suit my front axel now... dam it

You can chuck a terrano transfer case on the back of them, with some slight adjustments.

Would be worth your while.
