Don't quote me on this, but I think you might run into WoF troubles with it sticking out like that. You could take it into a garage, and just get their opinion on it, 'cos it looks pretty cool!

Like he said, dont quote him... :? .......Perfectly legal front bar. Its an integrated "pedestrian friendly shroud" as required in lvvta descriptions if a forward protruding winch is present. (if anyone were to ask). Additionally it appears to be a rugged ridge one that have been around for quite some time in nz and have, to my knowledge, never been an issue with vehicles they have been fitted on.
Nice wagon, welcome to Jeepdom.

Really? I thought that nothing could stick out forwards like that? I should really pay full attention a bit more...

Last one I made stuck out in a similar fashion, designed to deflect impact away from the winch fairlead (which is projected forward of the stock bumper), should you happen to barrel into a pedestrian. The comment is about the pedestrian friendly shroud is as found in LVVTA threasholds. They dont describe what a pedestrain friendly shroud should look like however, so is purely my interpretation, which two WOF issuers agreed with. No reason at all why the rugged ridge one or similar should be any different. (aside from also being legal for sale here as well)
The "stinger" bars as seen on load of US TJ's XJ's etc however are a different story altogether.

Perhaps researching before commenting would serve two purposes, 1) it saves unecessary worry due to incorrect advise 2) helps educate yourself, therefore also providing the tools to help others.

What other restrictions are there?

Warrant of fitness inspectors have guidelines on bullbar designs (in their Vehicle inspection requirements manual) that are based on the External Projections Rule. An inspector may refuse to issue a warrant of fitness if, in their opinion, a bullbar:

slopes forward (unless the shape is necessary to fit closely to the vehicle's structure)

Class MB and MC vehicles: From October 2003 it has been generally illegal to fit bullbars to Class MB and MC vehicles manufactured after that date. As with Class MA vehicles, bullbars are only allowed if the vehicle has been crash tested and has met the requirements of the relevant frontal impact standard with the specific bullbar already fitted. You'll need to get this confirmed by the vehicle manufacturer.

I'm not sure what year that Jeep is, but I'm thinking newer than 2003?

Refer LVVTA, Vehicle exterior, 2-1 External projections. esp "auxillary winches" (for reference to the pedestrian friendly shroud) and further down "auxillary bars - bull bars, nudge bars"

At "auxillary bars": Quote "no LVV referral required, inservice requirements for condition and performance must be met"
As the rugged ridge (and similarly manufactured) ones do not interfere with the air bag etc they are eligable to be used without LVVTA certs, and by default therefore should not be an issue with WOF. Relevant info can be obtained from the manufacturers if required.

How can you possibly suggest that the TJ shown is later than 2003, the shape ran from 1996 to 2007, 66% chance your guess is wrong.

HA... I spent most of my time out of action one way or another anyway..... winch spinning, stuck up on tree stumps, torn tyre sidewall, over heating..... bah.... cool day anyway. It was good to meet you finally.

yup, to the left of that photo (right and centre track access) its about a 3 ft deep hole about 6mtrs long. saffa on 35s wasnt getting through it. An apparent sad result of people thrashing the "easy" sides when unable to get up the left. The summit tracks themselves arent that bad.

Just because it dosn't require cert dosn't mean it will pass a WOF they are two separate things

Yeah yeah yeah..... If the WOF man passes it, which in the context of this conversation two had been consulted when building and fitting something similar, and did pass it, the theory holds up.

Lets not get into a bullshit debate carried over from the lift weetbix card drama. :?
The bar in question is one that will comply, and has been proven to in the past. I also know several people who have the same bar on their TJs and have been through the process of checking out the practicality of fitting them to be proven that theyre fine.

To summarise, just to be clear, I consulted two WOF issuers when building one similar (I know, im repeating myself, but ya gott be reaaaalllyyy clear sometimes for some folk) I know of two people that have the Rugged Ridge one on their trucks and checked first both with the manufacturer and their respective WOF issuers before purchasing also. I also know one of the importers for these bars. Simply, theyre OK. End of really. Debate over. Move along. Thread back on topic.

I run 98 or force 10 from Gull in mine all the time,I don't bother with the lower octane stuff, but If you worry about gas consumption you wouldn't own one would ya ?
