Looking good. .what is the distance from battery to the winch? As curious as I'm looking at putting a winch in back of mine but thinking I need big cables to cope with the voltage drop..

Batteries are mounted in the center of rear seats.so probably 4m cable length...95 might be a bit large, but I'm a auto sparky(almost embarrassed to admit cause the fuse box area is a mess.....) so just went to the biggest shit I can get my hands on.

Value of volt drop: 1.8v
Length of route: 4m

Conductor size: 95mm

Load Current (75 degrees C): 336A

Have made handbrake bracket. Bolts are only single shear...just been thinking since I've finished it should probably support both sides as there only 6mm bolts

Way easier to make on the bench with a extra transfercase.

Dash wasn't working out how I hoped so have changed and gone back to standard gauges for speedo and tach.still waiting for speedo to arrive...but clearly I shouldn't mark stuff out when tired.never double checked (amateur mistake....) and well its obvious now

Dash 2.0 didn't work ...as the new tacho and speedo were too deep and hit dash bar.... so time for dash 3.0.

Tried a different method this time. Made somewhat of a mould out of wood and attempted a carbon fiber panel to mount it in...seem to work ok.fitted and rewired everything again today...it woks which is a bonus.just have to calibrate speedo, bit don't fancy trying that on the road atm.not quite legal really.

Anyway means nothing with out pics....

Finally starting on exo. Not much progress there but started. Also got a cutoff saw now that I've moved away from the one I used to use.

For 170 dollars I thought it was not bad.aslong as it cuts somewhat straight it'll be better than doing it all with a 4 1/2 inch

Spent afternoon on it did a couple more bends
Guessing having a bend in the windscreen bar isn't ideal, but thought it'd be better to get the corners low enough yet have room for bonnet etc

Made some more progress, rear guard hoops are attached. Main hoop over body attached .this part sits a bit close to my liking In a couple spots and I'm sure this will meet contact with the body at some point t in time. Did some other important tasks like p clipping fuel lines to body and finally attached earth permanently. Respect to the guys that knock these cages out somewhat fast. Everything is only tacked/outside welded. Plenty of braces and welding to add..try weld as much as possible on body and take off for weld and paint.

Haha yes of course I am.full body exo is the plan.
Kinda like this for rear
20151115_193300.jpg
But with out twin Centre hoops as I don't think I could get two hoops to be identical enough to be that close.
Will of course go over a pillars and over cab

Spoke to Mr Cert man and penciled myself in for mid Feb. Now he asked a question about my beadlock. Franklin engineering built them but he never sent me a invoice so he my have to have them inspected by him, and I'm lacking a torque spec on the ring. 36 bolt with 8mm bolts. I guess I'm gunna have to get some letter punches out.but to what spec to I stamp it in?

Exo is all pieced together..a few braces too add where it bolts on . then work out how to get it off too weld up the inside.think it's going to be front bar off, wing mirrors off maybe and possibly tyres off. Maybe.

Also need to swap rear springs for 4 inch lift.have 2 inch lift swb saf in there but sits 60mm lower than front.

Who's got a Toyota steering shaft sitting in there shed they can measure for me? I've got a cut and welded one atm that won't work for cert... looking for around 600mm from steering box to male spline below steering column. I think 106 hilux might be close?
Cheers

Why wont the cut and welded one work for the cert?

I know of quite a few stories of what hes passed, so unless you have done something super dodgy (which i dont think you have) there shouldnt be a issue?

Technically you are NOT suppose to have a cut and welded steering shaft.. it's in the rules.. but hey.. mine is cut and you would never even know..

I hear you. He specifically asked about steering shaft. Seeing as we only shortened and re welded what toyota welded...but for the sake of just bolt g in a 106 he should be happy....
