Picked up the new heart for my vitara. Nearly blew a valve. Them little engines are sure heavy. Been busy trying to sort a trailer to pick the vit up from Taupo as well.

Makes the tyres work better at low preasures on sidlings though, less rolling side ways with wider rims.

he wont be doing sidlings in his road going surf and i for one, would rather he ran 8' rims to improve the chance of his tyre staying on the bead and also it will look a little bit more road legal than 10' rims

soo your saying i don't need 10'' rims for my 33x13.5s??, ok well i just got told to use 10'' so thats what i was going for?.
The wheels that are going on are offroad only, In other words the little 31's are going to be my road going ones, and the 33's are for offroad,
untill i get enouth money in the back to find me some brand spanking new ones that don't wear like the mudzilas do.

if he ran 8" rims it would make the 13.5" tyre balloon like hell and would be skittery as shit on the road,to get the tyre profile flat he would have to run the pressures down low and that would chew the shit out of the rubber in no time.
10" rim is my opinion.

You can not straighten that link successfully, it will always bend again under only about half the stress of the original. I've bent four so far and should have an idea. Get a new or straight used one or get one made and slide a close fitting sleeve over it. Maybe go the whole hog and have a chrome moly one made if this is a recurring problem. It looks like a tie rod rather than a draglink but from the photo its hard to tell. Definitely can not be safely and reliably straightened even if its un unwarranted bush basher sorry - unless you want it to fail in the hills somewhere. cheers, don't shoot the messenger.

I run 13.5 35's MT Bajas on 8" rims and they sit nice and flat, half worn now and no sign of irregular wear. They drive well on the road at higher pressures anywhere between 20-40psi but they do roll over and wallow on steeper sidelings with under 5psi trail pressures. Also run a set of 12.5 x 35's Cooper STTs on another truck with 8" advantis and they work well in all conditions and have never popped off even at 5psi without bead lockers. I don't know why they (tyremakers) recommend 10" wheels but they all do. Who are we to argue?

really ! ? well there ya go.
the last set of 12.5" tyres i saw mounted on 8"rims were ballooning like hell at 30psi and were skittery as hell on the road as was only running on the very centre of the tyre which would have chewed out the middle pretty quick. the owner decided to get 10" rims and the tyres mounted much flatter profile and drove like a dream.
but hey, theres allways exeptions. maybe im one of them

like i said
also the 10" rims give nearly twice as much offset as the 8" to make more room for turning circle and wider track etc as well ...
blah blah blah...i like 10s cos they phatter yo

Now you're talking, phatter is a whole 'nother thing altogether! Being phatter doesn't even need to make sense, I'd like a set of slammer airbags on the TJ for the phat and to shock the hell out of people!

I concur.. Talk to your WOF man at 10 inch rims you may need to recertify owing to width increase. Yep had one fail its wof last week for that very reason. and I do agree with Skid, got a mate runs narrow rims even off road and if he does push one off the dam you couldnt image and easier thing to put back on

I say go the narrower rim as well.
For tyres that the manufacturers call "mud tyres" (ie BFG mud terrains, MTR's and all those other radials that I reckon are only an aggressive all terrain), then yes, a wider rim may well be the go to make your tyres sit flatter and handle better on the road. But you are driving a 4wd, not a lowered rice burner, and it should be driven totally differently, as it sure as hell will handle differently. And if you happen to be running open treads on the road, then a bit of wallowing on corners is to be fully expected (irrespective of how the rubber meets the road)
I run 39.5 x 15.5 swampers, on an 8" rim, at 4-8 psi and have have never had one pop off a rim, (of course mine doesn't get driven on the tarmac)

Just so that everybody knows = MTR is Maximum Traction Radial ----- its not made out to be a mud specific tyre, it never was and it never will be.
As for the sidewalls and tyres sitting flat on the ground, rim size is only one of the factors. You have get the weight of the truck into perspective as well. I can let all air out of my BFG Muds on a Wrangler and its driveable as the tyres are not completely flat. Now you do that on a Nissan Patrol, it might be a different story.
