Was an .... interesting trip

Went down cable which now has no cable, used the winch (vey happy with) crispy and taz went home early which meant they missed my mate roll his hilux off the main track

Big thanks to Jafa and Ryan (Wisard2) for helping recover him

It started out as a good day, we did the Cable track as Dave mentioned, and made our way to Maymorn Junction carpark at the top. There Crispy and Taz left us to head home. Our plan was to continue to the hut to have lunch and then whatever. Unfortunately...... we never made the hut. Dave's mate had a mis-judgement and Whoops.................... the photos speak for themselves. NO PEOPLE OR ANIMALS WERE HARMED DURING THE TAKING OF THESE PHOTOS OR VIDEOS. The video of the accident, and subsequent recovery and cosmetic surgery are priceless.

Needles to say, we all felt for Daves mate, and hope to see him out again in due course. He was not injured in any way, so that was the main thing.
I do have some full on video of the whole episode, and recovery, but for private viewing at this stage

also That corner has got a shitload tighter since i was last there maybe 6months ago, If you look at photo 3. Those big logs used to support the track at the top, im not sure if they slid down with truck of if those supports were already washed.

Is it worth organising a work party to make that corner a bit safer? maybe the bank can be dug in a bit? or some logs to shore up the bank or something?

I think definately a good idea, I think logs would be a good start, the edge has a similiar consistence to wet cement, was lucky to get my lux back across again

A work party is a good idea. Count me in for that one.
Obviously a fair amount of water can come down the hill in that corner. See the sewer pipes which were put in place some time ago have washed down the bank. They will need dragging back up and being put back into place (if they are still usable).

Yep, a working bee to fix that corner and make it safe to get round is a sensible idea, and you can count me in. :)

On the subject of maintenence does anyone know if ARAC are still involved or actively involved in Odlins Rd. I was talking to a joker around 2001 or 2002 ish and he was telling me they had spent quite a bit of time negociateing with DoC to gain access to the road and keep it open and I think they had a contract with DoC to remove a couple of condemed bridges and remove the old car wrecks as well as perform maintenence on the road or something like that?

Does anyone know much about whats going on with that or has it all died?

There used to be a small, but dedicated breakaway group from the Wgtn 4 wheel drive club who were the caretakers of the track and hut. Back in the early 2000's I spent a lot of time on working bee's with them in there. The main guy was a chap named Eric, and several others, and we would be in there at least a couple of weekends a month. I don't know whether they are still actively involved in maintainence of the area or not, and I don't have Eric's phone number anymore. But that's not to stop us from doing our share, especially to make a couple of "unsafe" parts of the track safe again for the benefit of everyone.
