checck primer pump is at the top of its travel and start engine, rev from throttle body and watch the primer pump if it sucks down you have a fuel blockage pre filter (most likley deisel bug) remove filter and empty into a white container to check colour, if it has a blackish grey coulor you have the bug. clean filter in petrol and replace fill tank with fresh fuel and a anti bacterial agent Morey's one works well. no point replaceing filter till you have run a couple of tanks of additive through cause it will only block up new one. always keep your tank as full as posible to reduce growth. no coulor change, blow line back to tank (low pressure no more than 30 psi) and get someone to listen for bubbles. if the primer does not drop remove return line from tank and feed from filter to pump, put pump end in a container and blow out at low pressure check flow. do not be tempted to use high pressure as you can damage seals. if no blockages your pump may have failed but I would go with the above first. hope that helps. :( Cheers

yup , after you manipulated my cap to fit my 40, its never been the same.

OK, new fuel filter in today, seems a bit better and cleaned up the dodgy battery terminal, which seemed to help a little bit.

yup when money allows, an oil change will eventuate

if anybody is wrecking a 80 and wants to give skiddy some parts, then I need a fuel cap, a speedo cable and some other minor items, like the wipers

You havent got diesel at a remote petrol station recently, you may want to put some diesel bug killer through it. If the diesel darker than usual?

I dont think he actually knows

It seemed to be going ok round the south coast to the beer brothers beer bach the other night so maybe it was just a crook fill of diesel?

true, I don't know. I'm not even a mechanics ass, as previously mentioned.

We replaced fuel filter and bled system and now is fine. 8) 8)

I don't think it was crap fuel as the old filter was fairly clean, but due to running it down to the fuel light for months and running out a few weeks beforehand, I believe it just piced up an air blockage that needed bleeding out.

Sometimes it still skips a beat when you're cruising along, but I'm sure the injectors need doing as it seems to be a hairy start on about 5 cylinders for a second, so does anyone know of a really good injector cleaner for diesels :?: :?:

and another thing, it smokes like a bastard when cold, I mean really smokes, WHY :?: :?:

Seals might be leaking allowing oil into the cyclinders while sitting. Once it has a chance to burn out the excess oil (after warming up) does the smoke go away?

Or the injector seals might be leaking allowing the cylinders to fill with diesel while it sitting at night. What colour is the smoke?

grey white usually means excess fuel, maybe the pump needs a tweak on the cold start timer,or maybe a crook glow plug? you really need to keep up on the oil changes on that thing man specially with there reputation for big end bearings!!

man I changed out my oil ever 5000km do oil filter and deisel filter every 10,000k diff oils and air filter@20,000. I would say you have got deisel bug though cause of the way it went away with the change. remove your filter and blow 30 psi up the return pipe to the tank and you will probably see some black snot come out of the line to the pump. it will be worse cause your tank is always empty. :(
