Some more Red Rocks slip photos taken tonight as sun going down:

This sign may be an issue for those going through unless council are in agreement:

From the pics it looks easy to drive around and I saw what looked like attempts i.e. tyre tracks leading up to rocks but none going all the way through.

Has anyone been able to travel via Long Gully to the other side of this blockage or are there more challenges ahead?

Cheers,

Rick.

I should be down at the gate about 5.30pm

I guess if the council has closed the road at the slip we cant go past that point but if we were to find that someone else has already shifted all the rocks and there are already tyre marks going past there we'll be ok to drive through

I just hope this slip doesn't give the council and/or DOC the right excuse to close the road.
DOC or some other greenie organisation have been wanting to close the road to vehicles for some time now.
I think that slip needs to be cleared asap.

Maybe its not as hard as the photos look
Maybe it would take 15mins to move some rocks
It was good to have a beer at the batch with a few (toyota driving) mates

I must remember to take extra emergency beer next time.

Shit I'd left the chilly bin (aka the Bar) on the back of the truck from when I left Marks place on Sunday Avo and there was still some ice left over from the weekend to keep the cans chilled at the right tempature

looking at those pics from HJ60, somebody had moved a lot of rocks on the other side before we got there.

I got there a little earlier yesterday and meet up with the late model black shorty landrover. He had pulled two trucks through that got hung up on the rocks - one was a hilux that broke something in the attempt :(

Just back from Red Rocks to see if third hand radio news today that council had used a helo & monsoon bucket to bring the loose stuff down was true.

The site looked almost exactly as we left it last night. While there one of the locals - landrover next bach south from the slip came along and slipped left going through the first gap. We repacked and got him able to reverse out and park up. Went rest of way to his bach on foot.

Next vehicle through will need to repack again to make things easier.

Grrr ..... get stuck once and they never let you forget it :)

Have a digi camera now to also record the next ones I tow out.

The great thing about the south coast is that eventually "everyone" gets stuck and 9 times out of 10 someone comes along to help. hj60 (mobile communications centre)

With the amount of radio gear you've got in the back of that thing Rick you'd be able to reach the US Marines in Iraq to come and tow you out

Seen in Red Rocks area on Wednesday by someone else:

I expect if there was more rock ready to fall then this sort of water dumping would have moved it so the track should be almost "safe" for a while or until next storm. :) hj60
