I have what a believe to be a reasonably competitive truck. I was really keen to enter it against the guys from the north to see how I would measure up.
When we have a triall down south the entry fee is somewhere between $20 and $30 with no licnences etc. as opposed to $400 odd dollars. We have guys entering old suzukis , hiluxs etc and having a ball of fun. I believe that is what the sport should be about guys getting out there and having some fun!
I hope you now understand why no-one from the south is entering. I approached the organisers of the Dunedin one to see if we could work out a compromise, but apparently there wasn't.

At one of our meetings one member who didn't do trialing said I have spent x number of dollars modifing my truck to go 4 wheel driving ,so why should I have to sponser others just because their personal preference was trialing. So that was the end of trailing at Nelson. The committee decided there was no advantage belonging to the NZFWDA so pulled out and most other clubs in the South Is did the same so this day very few clubs belong to the Ass .
The only club that stayed with the Ass was MId Canterbury but over the last couple of years a few others have joined as well and I think By having trails down in the south the NZFWDA is hoping others will join but it will be a long road.
With low wages in Nelson even the ones interested in trialing can't afford to build a competitive truck let alone travel the country to compete.
In the south the winch challenges seem to be more popular and then you use your truck for ordinary trips.
So this might show why there is not much support for trialing.
the nzfwda has nothing to do with were the rally are held it was south island clubs that wanted them held down there if these three rounds were held in the north island there would of easily bean 60 trucks compete there
as i no there is a a top south island c class truck that could easily take the c class title sitting in the shed and they were one of the teams that wanted south island trials
