Finished some more on the truck.

Engine all wired up and started (after finding a blown fuse). Old fuel tank just tied on the back so we could fire it up. Will need to find something more permanent at a later date.

Used the engine lifter to muck around with the back. Have found a few things are hitting so Mr Grinder will need to come out and have a play with Mr Welder

The other three wheels still on the ground so happy with the travel. Can't wait to get out and throw some mud around!!!!!

the mud and resulting damage to my 80 is a direct result of being (mis)guided by your worker

or is that some devious ploy to get work in the door

bit of a team effort yesterday..myself, njv6 and couple others that turned up stripped and reassembled my commy trans to fit the new tailshaft for the marks adaptor.was interesting, we had printed off choppers post about it but i also had a hayes manual for the transmission that covered everything. its not toooooo bad just makes ya think.

my cefiro failed a wof today for stupid things like wiper blades n spotlights that i never use havn a blown bulb! so fixed that up and gave it a service and a clean!

Had an absolute blast out at the Jeep Woodhill 4wd Adventure park on the free offroad driver training course with instructor Colin Burden. As I am in the process of looking for my own 4wd I was lucky enough to use one of Colins own vehicles - the mighty 70 Series Landcruiser with twin diff-locks.
Image
The course was excellent and really allowed you to test the limits of your vehicle. We had some rather standard Hiluxes, Terrano's, a Jeep Cherokee, Mitsi Delica Van and a Lada with an Opel 2.0 engine. We crossed paths with some guy's from the North Shore 4wd club and witnessed some phenomenal driving from a couple of Lexus V8 powered Landcruisers, one being the vehicle off the Demon energy ad the other a supercharged V8 Prado.
I was amazed at the capabilities of these standard vehicles, especially at the big clay play area up by the 4wd office. They were going through the bogs and clay ruts with ease - only the Delica van had to be snatched by me in the Landcruiser.
All in all I would highly recommend this to anyone who is wanting to fine tune their 4wd safety skills and have a blast doing it.
I'm sorry I don't have many photo's.. was too busy having so much fun driving!!

cool, we are heading in at the end of winter where everything is soaked and its so damn cold that all those little sandflys stay away. We made the mistake of going in at the wrong time last year and got eaten alive.
Anything new and exciting in there this year? any good damage or fun?

Got afew things checked off the list this weekend..

1. Fitted new Water Temp Gauge as the old hilux one was poo, got an EGT gauge to go in next
Image
2. Fitted new Optima YellowTop D34 and replaced old battery terminals
Image
3. Changed the Diff oils and added extended breathers w/ proper connections (replaced the no8 wire that was holding the breather on :D )
4. Ordered 2 more recovery hooks to fit to a rear bar, decided to stay away from shackles
5. Reset the rear brakes, still seem to grab in reverse though
6. Got the paperwork ready and checked out if the personalized plate should now be moved to the Hilux..
Image
..still undecided but think it suits the truck abit more than the Blitzen? :D
7. Tried to find someone to do the front and rear barwork and again found engineers not wanting to touch it??? WTF??? :?

Feel like i need something else though..

Cheers
Alex.

Hi Kev,easy to tell you left in the early group, was a big day for me, ended up with one of the vehicles in the later group collapsing drivers front wheel bearings, smashing the FWH gear, but worst of all destroying the bearing retainer and all the thread on the spindle, all that was holding the wheel/hub assy on was the calliper  truck was going nowhere fast.
I did a dash thru to Westport and we got some parts, went back in, repair was done, got home about 9pm 8)
Was a good weekend, great company, good food, huge fun in the mud.......nothing much has changed in there at all.

At the end of the day we were asked by the police to check out a stolen car on Muriwai beach to see if we could recover it, this is what we found, bare in mind its only been through ONE tide, needless to say its still there, but can't speak for tomorrow morning...

Curious, if one wanted to retrieve that, how would one go about it?

I`m guessing a lot of digging and a double or tripple pulley winch around something extremely sturdy e.g rear subframe etc.
