Flat-fendering the TJ
Re: Flat-fendering the TJ
ask chopper if you can borrow his one
Re: Flat-fendering the TJ
Frak matt he cant have my one as you still have it

Re: Flat-fendering the TJ
aaannnndddddddd right back on-track.....
Partially painted and sitting in place. Have the led indicators coming tomorrow, and still need to trim one of the gussets and will need to extend the current rock slider to tie in with the bottom of the guard. The existing plasticy thingy looks rubbish now, and, after "correcting" the angles of the guard is now in the way and has to go.
Should be all sorted by tomorrow night.

The finished product

Still need to extend the rock-slider to tie into the bottom of the fender, but that's for another day!!!
Next mission, the body lift and hi-clearance tummy tuck. (if the body lift ever gets here from Wooders!!)

Re: Flat-fendering the TJ
Tommorow will bring a little more tidying up.... need to get rid of some overspray [that was carefully avoided in the pics], might put a clearcoat over the enamel on the fender and on the underbody spray under the doorwell and on the guard panel, and still want to silicone off between the new and old guards. THEN it will be finished. Then again, do we ever really Finish?
Thanks guys. I'm pretty rapt with it aye.
Total build cost including paint, trim, led indicators, etc etc $460.00

Re: Flat-fendering the TJ
did you have to get cert my boss reakns i will have to get a cert after i cut my gaurds b4 he will give it another wof
Re: Flat-fendering the TJ
Just got a WOF yesterday. Guards were inspected and tyre width was taken into account and was not a problem. I would have thought that the Cherokee would be lucky to get a WOF without the flares anyway, as the tyres are waaayyy exposed (or have you cut the guards and moved the flares up.. cant recall). Hence the reason why putting 33's on a cherokee and keeping it road legal by chopping up the guards was never an option for me.
then again, the WOF rules seem to be fairly open to interpretation so who really knows.
[edit]
Just following on from that Shayne, ive just been over the LVVC threasholds... heres what they have to say about structure:
Vehicle Structure
3-1
Cosmetic Body kits and components (is it cosmetic? dunno, but its the only part that refers to the body structure, so we'll go with it)
LVV certification is not required provided that:
- the fitting system does not weaken the vehicle structure (cutting up guards might???)
- the kit or components do not present any forward facing external projections
- the performance of any lamps is not affected as the result of the kit or components.
So, ive removed my indicators, but replaced them with LEDs that are still placed in a legal position.... do i need a cert????
Ive cut up the gurads too, to fit the flatties... did that weaken the structure??? (doubtful, but not proven)
Does it already have a cert for the tyres Shayne?
People always argue the point about this yet for once the LVVC is quite clear on the subject......
Tyres, Wheels and Hubs
10-1
Tyre size changes
LVV certification is not required provided that:
- have an outer rolling circumference that is not 5% greater than OE (we're buggered as soon as we go to 31's)
- are an appropiate selection for rim width (for those than run skinnier rims than the tyre manufacturer requires.. you need a cert!!)
- have a tread that does not extend beyond the original or modified body panels or guard extension (ANYTHING wider than the flare needs a cert!!)
additionally ANY rim that widens the track width more than 25mm from OE also needs certing.
So, if your WOF man has been passing you with oversize tyres, yet wants to crap on about a trimmed up guard, theres two things to do, either point out his inconsistensies (and have him right arse-faced at you), or suck it up and be thankful you got away with it this long.....
Now that Ive bled on for so long.... the very first part of 3-1, Structure also says.......
LVV certification is always required for any vehicle structure related modifications unless specified below:(if modification does not appear below, refer to an LVV certifier)
Seeing as how the topic of body panel mods were not mentioned, and assuming that the panels are part of the structure, then you must REFER TO AN LVV CERTIFIER.... it does not say that IT REQUIRES LVV CERTIFICATION.... something to think about

...and that time would be yesterday. To be fair I only broke 2 of them (the rears), and the tweak to the front fender is barely noticeable now I pulled it back out...
