Terrano (U571):solid axle swap

? Is that a statement or a warning?

Toyota HILUX owners don't need to, Surf owners should ALL do it...
SAS rocks... but lets not start that argument again ok... if you wanna put your IFS truck against my SAS one I'm game... let the cock-flopping begin!

There are some very cool links there... had a look at that Orange truck with the Exo in the last post... very cool... I think the MU needs an exo... I think I should make one for Al so I can practice before I make mine

The axle thing is something you need to decide Al... price-wise the Toy is probably the cheaper way to go at around $400 for a complete one but if you want to stay pure Nissan then get the chequebook out and go for it.
Rancho make some nice new coil-overs too... just waiting on price... wouldn't that be sexy... 15" of coil-over travel (to put that in perspective, SupraSurf has 12.9" of travel in the shocks in the rear of his Surf... some of which is actually lost due to the a-frame setup required to fit them under the truck... and we've all seen that flex up!)
Now, if we make main control (radius) arms that are about the same legth as the truck, and mount them from the backl of the chassis we should be able to roll the truck on its roof while keeping the wheels on the ground

Yeah, awesome Jumper!!!!!
I had a good seasrch around for it, but there's so much info on NPORA these days its hard to find stuff

Hey DB, agree about NOPRA, worse site I have ever tried to find anything in! Can see the method in your toy madness Supralux, had a discussion with my mechanic about it all, and he agrees with you(time to get a new mechanic
). The point that sold me was the weight saving, so sad to say, I'm biting the bullet and putting toy parts in the beast. Cost comes into it I suppose, can now just buy more gadgets, ropes etc. I suppose with the toy parts it would be easier to rig the steering using toy parts, got coils & shocks pretty much decided and the lockers so just need to decide on the radius arms???? How far you thinking of moving this axle supralux, as we may need to engineer a pitman arm if we go much more then an inch or so????

Haha... good to hear (I knew you'd see the light eventually)
I'd say Range Rover front radius arms just because they are beefy and cheap. No need to get longer ones, everything moves forward including the radius arm mounts, so all good there. We'll just engineer it to fit.
Look on the bright side - if you pop a diff in the front then replacing it becomes a $150-300ish max. job... pop one in a Nissan... ouch. Pop a CV in a Toy axle, 1 hour job, about $80 for a new CV... pop one is a Nissan... ouch again. Blow a manual hub in a Toy, $250ish for new hubs... pop one of those fancy-pants auto/manual hubs in a Nissan... ouch.
See, Toyota is pain free by comparison... besides - I would make YOU lift the Nissan one in and out of your truck... they weight MUCH more

I dunno steve, were do you get ya prices from??
Super winch hubs $175
Replacement CV's $150 for good second hand ones.
Front diff center $300
As for the labour, well, much the same
But go with the Toy set up, there is a good pool of you guys running Hilux stuff now, so you have the support and bits a pieces lying around back up

I'm going to be his trusty offsider there DB, otherwise known as the apprentice/goffer/boy
. Might even book some leave to do it
. Good chance to learn how to weld I suppose. The weight saving was also a big factor in the choice. Really looking forward to this now. Better start looking for the parts.

Yeah, I've got some mates with terranos, auto and desiel, I'll check there spec plates. If not I'll give Jamie a call in Rangiora, or failing that I'll ring Nissan in Auckland, they have been helpful for info in the past. Definitely want 4.8 as I need to slow down for those poxy desiels

Well I have finally tracked down the guy in Oz who has done the whole Nissan thing. sorry Steve, just can't bring myself to toy parts on a nissan, but you can wear gloves when handling the parts so we don't contaminate you with nissan
Will flick you his email to me when I get back to work, can you pm me your email addy. He is also going to forward some pretty detailed pictures as they make more sense to me. Looks like we are going MQ/MK patrol axles and diffs and probably replace both frontand rear. Does that model come with factory difflocks, anyone
If not, fit the lockrites, or Nissan LSD up front, and lockrite rear. Nissan do 4.88:1 ratio diffs, so will go with those. Shit I'm excited now. He's got exactly the same as I want, but with a 3.8l commodore V6 in it, shit, what can I do next.
