FARRRRRRRK YEAH! Guess I will have to leave the budgie smugglers at home in that case. Probably for the best.

Ashley River is running high and brown. Came over the Rangiora bridge at about 5:15 and it had just broken the main stream and was just flooding the large low spot just by the bridge there.
I doubt it will be suitable to do any river crossings on the trip - might pay to stay to the track. Even then you normally cross the main flow of the Ashley at least twice to get to the Okuku but I have avoided it in the past by pushing through scrub. I'm not sure if the Okuku itself will be high. It takes its feed from Lees Valley and there is snow up the back of there but not sure if the rain has pushed over that far to cause a melt or if the warm wind has been enough to do it

I wont be there as I went for a play yesterday and went under a low tree which hit the high lift jack on the spare wheel carrier which broke off spun around and hit the small door handle, breaking it and now I cant get in the back so todays mission is to get in the back

Wat time did you guys start? we were at the park by the bridge at 10 20 and left for the river at about 10 40 didnt think anyone else was goin to show up
Was that the same lux that hydroliced with oil that was stopped about 100m north of the bridge? I pulled up to see what was up, then later saw it being towed through Rangiora.

Yea same hilux. Some how filled the cylinders with oil once turned off and then cudnt start. Got it goin again on the side of the road bt was smokey so towed it home
White hilux was very stuck and my truck couldnt get it to budge with a snack strap so had to wait for a mate to come from chch
Should plan another trip and get a few trucks from round the area all out together
A few of the happy snaps from the Poulter River trip. Ended up with more scenic shots and pictures of cows hidden behind bushes than action shots as I left my little brother and stepfather in charge of the cameras.
So if anyone wants to see the many ways a cow can hide give us a yell.

Hey guys, we were the ones that talked to you's in the car park in the morning. (VX and a Paj). Sorry to hear about your bad day up the Ashley. Hope ya truck is ok. Could have come for a nice scenic drive with us round Lee's Valley if you wanted. Pretty uneventful, no snow really, just the odd pocket here and there, but did help a few people cross the upper Okuku that weren't gonna cross it. Crossed the upper Ashley, which had a pretty good flow. Cheers Scotty
Sounds like there were lots of different trips instead of one combined one I saw a few of you too but had other things on so couldn't go.
Any one keen on another trip in a week or two? I'm thinking of the Gary river on about the 9th or 16th Aug. Its a great trip to go down the Gary, along the Ashley and up the Okuku, to the white rock bridge or even push through up to Paringa hills. There are three exits along the way for people who want to / have to pull out part way. Its not a real rugged trip but a sense of adventure helps.
If there is interest we can start a thread for it.

Is it a track beside the river or down the river itself (i.e. lots of crossings). Could be keen but I've still got a bit to do before I'm keen to let the new truck spend to much time in the water buta few smaller crossings should be all good.

There are lots of crossings of the Gary, and some driving along it (between the trees), but last time I was there it was generally ankle to shin deep with a variety of deeper holes in places. We may or may not need to cross the Ashley, depending on if the flow comes right across to the north bank. One or two crossings of the Okuku to get to the road and quite a few crossings of it from there up to the Whiterock road. Snorkle and hooks recommended. Thinking of doing a rekki before.
