carefully undo the drain plug and let a couple litres drain out then pop the plug back in, have a few rags handy as it will make a mess, lol. check level on trans dip stick again for correct level, drive to get it hot then chek again to confirm. when you fill through the trans dip stick tube its allways best to do so slowly and check level a few times in between. remembering to let it settle for a bit to get a good reading.
to much oil can be just as bad as not enough. causes all sorts of extra pressures on internals.

drain the excess trans oil out its not to hard undo one of the hoses that goes to the radaitor start motor with the hose in a bottle have a helper to start the motor as if you took the hose that feed back to the trans when the motor start the oil will shoot out of the radaitor pipe and make a mess
so then switch to the other pipe. drain out 1.5ltrs and then recheck.
must remember that the torque converter will still be holding a lot of fluid as you have not drained that

You can not get all the oil out of an auto by taking the bung out, as mentioned above the torque converter will hold a heap. Autos oil level is also usually checked with the engine running and after running the vehicle through all the gears (wheels jacked off ground but vehicle level) then netural (usually for a nissan) and check level. If you haven't takne it for a drive and the oil is cold use the cold level then go for a drive and get it hat and recheck the hot level.
As Wopass said to much can be as bad as not enough, and by the sounds you will have way to much.
The box I am usuing is essentually the same and 5L with just a bung removal drain is about right BUT you need to check it, and nissan dip sticks suck to read with nice fresh red oil.

Mate how did you drain the trans? Its not just a case of remove the bung and all fluid exits the trans unless its a manual box.In the auto the trans fluid is held in the torque converter,valve body
and other components/cooler etc.If in dout drop the pan change the trans filter and flush the fluid out while adding replacement fluid as this is how you change the auto trans oil completely including the fluid sitting in torque converter possibly 2l more.

Yeah, we drained through the bung in the pan, then removed the pan and gave it and the magnet in the bottom a good clean with a wrag. Then we replaced the filter and pan seal and put it all back together.
Cheers guys, I'll go drain some today, shouldn't be too hard to just undo the bung and drain a litre of so... Shame I didn't ask this earlier actually, could have saved mysel a bit of cash and only bought 5L of fluid..... Anybody need a few litres of trans fluid?

Keep the trans fluid and use it in your power steering they both use the same fluid.
