well top gear did prove that the hilux is fairly industructable !!!

And sorry my mistake no they wernt used in WW2, but the engines were used in tanks and aircrafts.

And by armed forces i wasnt specifically meaning "NZ"!

No they weren't used in WW2 because they did not exist in WW2. Somehow I don't think you will find any Rover engines in either tanks or "aircrafts"

But anyway this forum is about Rover issues not arguing about whether Toyota is better than this or that, which frankly is an argument that bores me shitless.

Nah mate I had the same thing when I had a landrover, got sick of all the breakages and that was only driving it backwards and forwards to my bach in the bush so I moved to heavier vehicles and found the reliability far better

The title of the Question is "How reilable are these land rover/range rover things inst it,?

So people are giving him advise and saying how reliable or is it UN-reliable they are as that's what he asked for, Richard even said he is not biased towards Toyota.

Dont get all pissy because people are giving him advice and you can't handle it, Shit in the States and Ozzy the Hilux 8in diff is a common up-grade for a Classic or Disco housing to get strength now what does that say about there strength if a little Hilux diff is stronger.

Like everything on a on-line Forum take it with a grain of salt but when people post a question asking for advice they will get.

That might be the gypsy (maybe). didn't they have a fully waterproof rolls royce donk?

The Austin Gypsy lost out to the series 1, I think. Think the Austin Champ had the Roller motor in it. They were awesome coz reverse was in the transfer box so you had 5 reverse gears.

Seen a movie of two racing - one forwards and one in reverse. Then when they hit the halfway mark they changed directions and raced back - COOL.
