The intention is to run winch challenge type vehicles over the tracks at intervals each day. Off road racing will be using another track in the same arena at other times.
The 4x4 activities are in conjunction with 4x4 Action magazine who have been working with the Show management to create this event.
The 4x4 tracks will be similar to those used at last years Manukau 'Full throttle' event but with a little less mud.
All that is needed now are some participants. We need several vehicles for each day, with obviously the Saturday the main day.
This is a great chance to showcase your sponsors and have some fun in front of a crowd. The show attracts over 25,000 people.
If you would like to take part, then please email
access@nzfwda.org.nz smartly and we'll get things organised.
You seem to imply the fault for canning the 4x4 expo lies at the feet of the NZFWDA where it should be with 4x4 Action and John Reid.
The initial concept was with John Reid of 4x4 Action and he was to organise the 4x4 Expo part of the Winter Show on a commercial basis with exhibitors, displays and demonstrations. Unfortunately he failed to deliver on his promises.
You only need to go back to the very first posting where it appears the NZFWDA were trying to rescue the event from a commercial disaster for the 4x4 community, especially as the email contact address provided was an association one. Maybe it was not the association trying to step in but rather one or two people in an attempt to save face for the 4x4 community.
From an exhibitors side of things they would have to choose whether to attend the Winter Show or the Fieldays, both in Hamilton and only 5 weeks apart. Under current financial conditions many could not afford to be involved with both and would have to weigh up which event to attend. Winter Show with 25,000 attendees over 2-3 days or National Fieldays with 120,000 over 4 days.
As for local support, did you or other local members offer assistance prior to the event being advised as "canned"? You certainly knew of the event back in February as you acknowledged. There certainly appears that there wasn't any local support for this until after it was cancelled. If there was prior support why would it have been cancelled?
Something is now being done, although rather late. All that remains is that the publicity generated is a positive one for the 4x4 community as a whole.

No Ralfie, it looks like some last minute organising was attempting to be done internally, like a "oh shit best we pull finger" scenario
Ralfie, no one contacted the organisors in any way shape of form aside from John Reid, so to say anyone tried to rescue anything prior to the 15th is a complete falsehood, made a token gesutre would be perhaps a more apt term. Noone down here knew the event was in trouble, until such time as Peter announced it on the 15th, from there a rescue effort
has been made. Perhaps people need to communicate better aye.

I have never said the fault lays at the feet of NZFWDA, what I have said is that when it fell over, the NZFWDA ought to have stepped up to the plate. Simple FACT Ralfie is that this didnt happen. Proven by the FACT that no one at all contacted the organisors.

You will also see that Peters announcement spoke of trials trucks. And things were already being organised via guys in Auckland, there was never any contact with people in Hamilton. That was BEFORE the canning of the event, while conversations were still being had with John Reid. As you point out, i already knew something was going on, and i was also aware that it was all being organised already, local assistance wasnt asked for. Surely its up to organisors to communicate with clubs with what they may be able to help with, something has been achieved doing exactly that.
....one or two people in an attempt to save face for the 4x4 community
piss poor effort then Ralfie

Completely agree, no issue there at all.
Thing is Ralfie boy, that when doing things like this people have to chase others up... not simply post a message on an internet forum in a "i will speak, they will come" manner. You actually have to pick up a list of club numbers and call, you have to follow those calls up, you have to get in touch with the organisors, YOU have to make it happen.
And with willing attitudes, generally things DO happen.
FACT is Ralfie, that yes, John Reid dropped the ball, and when he did, no one else bothered to play. NZFWDA, in my opinion, ought to have driven this, but chose to walk away. Then the locals get the blame laid at their door. That, sir, is nothing but bollocks.
Up until Friday 16th, we still had avenue to have a track, to dig holes, to get out there and do something like the Full throttle or Boys Day out...... FACT ralfie, FACT.
If anyone claims they tried, to their fullest extent, to save this Ralfie, ill happily ring the bullshit bell loud. The FACT is that noone did, evidenced by what has happened over the last 10 days. (since becoming aware of it being "canned")
