Put yourself in the mindset of a crim for a minute.

Don Key sorry, JOHN Key changes the law forbidding air rifles.
so there you are, WHAT are you going to do? rush down to the police station and hand em in cos of THAT???

I think they should adopt the same law as the UK have had for years..
Put an, "energy rating" on an air rifle.
Rifles that move a slug over 500fps? (or what ever, 700fps) You need a firearms license to own one.
If you're caught using a high powered one without a license, you get fined.
Simple.

A bit like a motor bike. If you're a learner, you can only ride up to 250cc. Pitty they don't do that with cars. But that's another story..

theres the problem though, im sure that the gentleman that shot those cops was not really thinking of the consequences when he pulled the trigger.

At the end of the day Bob. The laws will change to make it harder for a person wanting to buy a high powered air rifle. And I say,"GOOD JOB"!!!!!!!!!
I haven't had my FIREarms license as long as you Bob. I doubt if many on this site have.
But saying/pointing that out? Mean fark all mate.

The time when you first had yours? They never had the technologically they have NOW. GET used to it. Surest thing is change. Like them white collars changing the laws for bigger taxes.
But I believe the is method in their madness.

look at all you idiots arguing over something you will never change

our government have and always will, change rules willy nilly to satisfy themselves even if it does no good.

not gonna comment on guns other than its the person behind it

same as dogs........ I have seen plenty of Pit Bulls more well behaved than the countries best show dog, its the owners who are bad and the owners behaviour that causes the dog to attack.

still see plenty of folks driving and using cellphones, myself included

they're gonna change some road rules soon, which will no doubt cause crashes, maybe even fatal ones

you're all wasting your time arguing over crap you can't fix, but be my guest

what is the sole purpose of owning a firearm such as a .22lr?
it kills things
I know that you know that and he knew that, harping on about fps and kinetic energy is horse shit, Aimed right my paslode nail gun could achieve the same result. The fact is a portion of society ignore the concequences whilst the rest sit back and sufferthe concequences.
Where do the suits draw the line slug guns?, or more , deny the law abiding folk access to legitimate gun ownership.
At that point only those with no concience will have them and again those playing by the rules are penalised.

Petes FIRST post....

petefj40 wrote:I knew it was just a matter of time before the high powered air rifles will require a firearms license to own one. GOOD JOB!!

In other parts of the world the energy rating of these air rifles determine whether they can be used or imported or not.

It's about time the law changed and got up to speed with the rest of the world.

Just my opinion..

That cop that was killed by an air rifle. I owned the same semi auto 12 shot that the killer used. They are lethal in the wrong hands.

If they change the law and and take air rifles off people that don't have a firearms license. This will piss my brother off. He'll have to get a firearms license. Then once he gets off his ass and gets that. He'll buy a real gun, and sell the pretend gun.

Followed by his LAST one which contradicts the sentiments expressed in the first.

I'm with you Pete. Sometimes it helps just to vent to the world. Yes these ramblings of ours will make no difference to the psyche of the crims, but as we discuss this stuff we all get a better picture of the world we live in and the way people think. I believe that if an air rifle that can kill at long range can be bought without any record from any store by anyone for what ever reason, that is wrong. And yes I am aware that they can be sold without any records by anyone else not affiliated with the trade, but at least they start out with a hindrence to the crims.

How many rich mummies and daddies buy their kids these toys because they are just toys. They must be, as they can be bought without a licence, not to mention a lack of safety training.

If these things become more regulated then maybe we can have a few less on the street and maybe a few less will slip into the hands of the bad guys, not to mention stupid kids shooting at anything they like with scant regard for any danger to anyone else.

I am a realist and I know that the bad guys will use whatever they like but any moves to make this harder is good.

The comment about all guns being used to kill is wrong too. Yes they can all be used to kill, but arent always used in that manner. I regulary shoot paper targets for my sport (infact that is almost all of my shooting now). I have hunted for deer, pigs, goats and smaller varmints (bunnies and possums) but I never took for granted that I was taking a life and it was never for the hell of it or for fun. it was for meat or vermin control.

Now for the contencious bit. I am a red neck of sorts and believe that if you take weapons from the law abiding populace then only the crims will be armed and i for one do not expect to be helpless should the need arise for me to protect my familly and what is mine. I might have some tight views of the way laws should be observed but if I have to I will change my paper targets for ... and I am pretty good out to approx 500M.

Yeah maybe I have a different veiw to the rest of the ORE world, but in this forum (off topic) I can have my say, whether it is right in anyones eyes or not and if people dont like it, dont read it!

Take what you will from this thread haynzy. I don't give a flying fark what you think buddy/m8. The TG-42 is a awesome weapon.
Saying I'm interested in purchasing one, doesn't say I have one on my property. Or that I'm inviting a crim to steal it. ffs

I happen to think the 338 is a great snipper cal. Great for long distances. And that's what I'm into. Shooting targets particularly.
I like my slug guns. Got a few of em. But I like my powder guns to. 204 and 223 cals are great, but they won't do 1.6k.

Why is it some people just cant accept that other people think differently? Why all the name calling? :?

Yes you may not enjoy the idea of punching holes in paper with high calibre rifles, but what you do in your own time is up to you and I wouldnt make fun of it (or belittle you directly). :?

Pete, the Sako is a great toy but the price per round is beyond belief. Even mil surplus 50 Cal rounds would be probably be cheaper, but I am with you on this one. The challenge when you take in all the environmental and human factors to get a small projectile to hit a target at 1000m is huge. Then when you step out to max range it is astronomically hard, but not impossible. It takes a lot of time, practice and a huge danger template to even consider trying (and a large budget). Considering the 7.62 has a danger template of over 5km the 338 would have to be at least half that again and I dont know of any ranges other then military ones that can offer that sort of distance.

But if ya get one can I have a go?
