Re: 1990 Lada Niva
that's cheap!
once you've got known good master cylinders on there you can actually positively check other shit's good to go.
mint.
is your alternator internally regulated? should be a cinch to wire up.

Yeap, I'm happy with that price
And nah, it's externally regulated. I'm probs going to do some of the wiring myself, but leave most of it to an auto sparky, to avoid any nasty engine fires (I'd probably throw the whole Lada away if the engine bay burnt out
)

Rightyoh, the alty mounts are done for now. Look a bit shoddy, but I don't care.
Next is the alty wiring, then brakes, clutch etc later on.
Pics:
Bottom of mount:

Top right of mount (to dizzy pinch bolt), it's a prong type thing, so the mount can be pulled out (not up):

Main body of mount:

Top of mount:

The top mount looks basically the same, so no new pics of that.
It's all 5mm steel, except for the main body of the bottom mount, which is 3mm.
Yay!

Re: 1990 Lada Niva
OK, progress!
Alternator is currently away being sorted out, and then it'll be the engine bay wiring next.
And I'm going to but the new master cylinders asap too.
But I made this today:

Which will fit like this:

It needs a little more welding to fill some holes, then painting up. But I'm pretty happy with it for a quick job. Hopefully I can get the other side done soon.
Then I'll need to drill holes to mount them - It'll be one bolt down the bottom (through the standard 'towing eye'), and two bolts up top to the mounting bar. - Which needs holes drilled in it for the standard mounting points too.
Hopefully then it'll be nice and solid

Re: 1990 Lada Niva
That's the good thing about it sitting round not doing anything, you have time to come up with better ideas for mounting things haha.
My first plans were shocking though
And this may be overkill for a rear bar

Re: 1990 Lada Niva
Sitting around doing nothing is precisely what mine is doing... all the air has run away from the tyres lol, oh well should be fairly strong once done.. and no such thing as overkill!

Re: 1990 Lada Niva
haha, I had to repair one tyre cos it was leaking.
And now it's sitting on Lincoln's suzuki wheels and muds, he needed my road tyres to get a WoF for his zuk (that thing keeps needing Lada bits to get a WoF on it, hmmmm....
).
And yeah, I still need to figure out where would be best to mount hooks, may need to do some more beefing up. Then I need to sort the front bar too, it's not the strongest thing around

Bahaha so true.
I'll have to get some longer shocks for mine. And are your springs captive? Or do they come loose at full flex?
And you got some shocks with the same compressed length but longer extended length right?
Oh and in relation to guard chopping, I didn't chop mine at all. I just beat the lower edge of the arch so that it is pointing upwards on the inside of the arch. It only rubs a little bit at the front now with those 30.5s

Re: 1990 Lada Niva
Actually. honestly. the shita has been more reliable than our 2011 ford. it starts first pop everytime and even drove for a couple hundi Kms with no front crankbolt and didnt miss a beat or drop the pully....
sadly our ford hasent even done 20k yet and the auto range sensor just shat itself. unbelievable
its a sad day for fords
should be a few jokes in that for someone to come up with
SP yea man longer extended and same length compressed. still hits bump stops before fully compressing shocks. cost me around 120 the pair I think. took orig one into appco and they matched it.
springs a bit loose only on full x axel by about an inch after having spacers in there. they relocate themself with no porb everytime tho. may oneday get some slightly longer springs. but tyres first.
with your wheels the rear of the rear arch and the front of the front arch hit on mine. i might just giv em da bash aswell for now just to get going and chop em up later down the track.

Re: 1990 Lada Niva
Yeah, this has always started too, it's pretty amazing really.
And yeah, beating the gaurds works well, means there's no sharp edges for the tyres to get cut on, just rubs slightly on a couple of smooth surfaces. You can get it to look fairly decent, you can't tell mine has been beaten with a hammer until you inspect it up close.
And I may try getting some shocks from pickapart. Or maybe go into appco and ask what make of vehicle has the right length shocks. Do you remember what car yours were for?
