Rim fire in a National park = illegal
Gun ignorant ... so rim fire opposed too centre fire ? is where the firing pin hits? correct? so why one allowed one not? is it rim fire =auto firing or something. ?
to be honest IDK its the law that DoC have placed on there land but i do know of some areas that they allow rim fire by permit.
Wopass might be able to answer that one

generally rim fires .22 or .22 Mag or .17... etc, are well under powered for hunting in National parks and just outright not suitable.
aside from which its Sooo much more fun bombing possums with the 7mm mag! (or similar)
so why would you even want to take a rim fire in?? quieter? less weight for ammo? cheaper to shoot off? all pointless if you miss shoot a deer and wound it and it runs off somewhere to die slowly making you a cruel bastage
edit to add: centre fire is everything else that is much more powerfull than rimfire

with that in mind Ben some of the DoC areas down here are infested with Rabbits
and are open tussock land so rimfires would be ideal for them

and that is where special permits come in. not many people go to national parks to hunt rabbits tho.
and BIG yea that's fine if your a good shot and know what your doing and can guarantee you will kill it, other wise dont (and its against the law in national parks and reserves and you will have all your arms and licence removed from you and never get it back) , this is why i said "generally".
30-06 is a good choice of pill for hunting rabbits

I was told years back they made rim fires illegal in parks as they were being used to shoot wood pigeons, maybe a myth tho
