I dunno if you can read or not but the badge on the back of a surf clearly states HILUX... Its a HILUX Surf.

Actually a Prado is almost as much hilux pick up as a surf is. Lets see, 8" g series diff and 27 spline axles.... yes. 2.4 (shudder) or 1 kz diesel .....yes. A340 auto.......yes.

Your right the 90 series Prado and 185 series HILUX Surf are almost identical in the chassis and mechanicals. Don't know why they didn't badge them Hilux Prado

Yip the 71-78 series Prado's are way more Hilux than cruisers, the only thing thats cruiser like is the larger off-set transfer case.

And Hilux's are awesome only if the arse end is cut off and a V8 gets shoe horned in the front

Exactly!!....What do you mean by made to work? have you made your prado selectable?

Could have quite easliy, but when I blew my transfer out a couple of years ago I got my hands on a 185 transfer case and swapped out the selector rods and solid spacer. I did a write up on it somewhere, can find if you want.

funny that. its got hilux on the tail gate and the registration label...the thread starter said nothing of the body configuration. ...newbie

and as for calling me one...hardly, although my modifying experience untill recently has been in the realm of lowering hilux's not raising them, (and legally i might add, No Makita one way adjustables here)......changing engine and drive line configurations is exactly the same.

Yea but it depends on whats classed as a Hilux It could be all hilux or only a lux cab haha

One thing i will say about Hilux's, any way shape or form, is that there is awesome off the shelf bolt on aftermarket upgrade and replacement parts.

Hilux has a flat floor. You can’t sit up properly. No head room, especially if you got a crash helmet on. None of the motors have got any grunt. V6 might be OK, don’t know. Seems like the diesel luxes are the first to get stuck. Drove a 3L diesel that was yuck but maybe coz it was an auto. Heaps of guys love em. They are a good ute thow.

Well you must be bloody tall ..im 6'6 & find ive got plenty of room.

They have heaps of afta market stuff.

this is to make it a usable and efficient offroader.

Most of them wish they were Sangyongs.....

I love hiluxs i reckon they're the best 4wd ever made, mainly for their practicality, reliability and toughness.
Ive only ever had 4 of them

LN61 Surf 2.4td
LN65 Hilux d cab 1jzge powered
LN60 surf cut into a hilux 5mge powered
Ln130 surf 1jzgte powered

but recently i needed another diesel ute with a 10grand budget, the best this could get me was a rough as 1993 d cab hilux 2.8 non turbo diesel with about 400km on the clock which realisticaly is an old slow over priced rough riding pos.

So i ended up buying a 2002 Mazda Bounty 4wd d cab 2.5td for $8k with only 210km on the clock in fairly good cond. I hate to say it but it puts a hilux to shame, way faster, way more comfortable, has air cond, easy as hell to work on, and way better condition. Its never gona be a hardcore offroader as its my daily/hunting ute but now with a lift, tints, a set of 32s and a winch bar it looks tough as.

The only hilux i can compare to it is a 2002 hilux SR5 turbo diesel hilux which sells for about $18k

So unless I need another daily that i want to take into the bush and thrash I think I'll stick with my bounty
