H J dub, think I can answer some of your problems.
Those brackets are almost identical to what I designed and had manufactured for my coil sprung surf, I had 2 sets made and sold one to a fella up Palmy way....soon after that those brackets were available through SNR
here are your problems.
The Surf I had was coil sprung which meant leaves weren't in the way, 86 onwards (IFS) surfs had a wider rear axle than the beam axle surfs or hilux's giving more room between the leaves and the wheel, and MR2's had 2 different width callipers I think the turbo models had the thicker rear rotors, also the wider IFS rear axle housing have a little step down in the outer housing circumference near the wheel bearing so the C part of the mounting plate slips over fine.
If you get an IFS (leaf sprung) rear end it may help, also a cool way to widen out your arse.
On My early leaf sprung surf the galant calliper was weapon of choice at the time.
On the coils here's what I did

Interesting that you say that.. as I came across the diagrams like years ago.. but no cad drawings to get them cut.. I'm going to template it out then get them lazer/water cut once done..

yep cheers but this was done and dusted a couple months ago.. think I updated progress on my build thread once it was done. and yea I realised that it only works on wide rear end and the C notch only works where he axle tappers down slightly.

If you are going to use MR2 noon turbo calipers then the LJ78 rear disk is from what I've read is the rotor to use.. as I'm going to doing this conversion soon on my truck.. just havnt had time to measure the diagram in cad to get them lazer/water cut. But from what i've heard thats what to use.. someone else may chime in with better info..which may help all of us.. cheers

Time to dig up an old thread. I have a problem with that I have a gap of ten millimeters between the pads and 18 millimeters for rotor thickness. The pads are 10 mm thick each, thats not including the backing plate. I suspect i have the wrong pads. Anyone shed some light ?

Hi Mike, I think you may have the wrong callipers
Do yours have the 16V stamped on them

Have you tried winding the piston open? You cant push the piston back like normal calipers, these ones have to be wound back. I use a shifting spanner in the V grooves in the piston.

they have 16-R (or was it 16-v? took a pic but my phone didnt save it) on them. Yeah I tried pushing them back and figured thats as far as they go because I was fighting the handbrake. I will try winding back and see if that works. only need 8mm and there is that with the pistions sticking out as far as they do

God I hope this works, I've only tonight to try

Last minute mike strikes again..........

Thats hopefully better then "Nek Minit Mike"...
Wind it back, the piston goes flush with the housing.

pretty sure I had the same prob but just realised I wasnt compression the pistons properly

I assumed you had already wound them back, make sure you wind them in clockwise (from memory) don't try and compress them

Woot, no more drums filling with mud and having to adjust them after every trip.
