Am mobile daily throughout the entire city with Emergency Services (Health). Scenes of utter devastation; rebuilding, particularly hearts and minds, will take years.
One of the best ways each and every one of us can help is to be informed, and keep others informed. The information contained at the following web address is regularly updated; it can and has saved lives:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/christchurch-earthquake/what-you-need-to-know/4692248/What-you-need-to-knowThis is not in relation to the excellent responses here, just a general caution for your consideration - please exercise extreme care if contemplating any
uncoordinated support endeavours; despite the very best of intent many independant actions are compounding gridlock, slowing the egress of Emergency Services and, unless can be sustained in the long-term, are actually serving to discourage some in our communities from developing an awareness of, and access to, official coordinated support (which has a planned longitudinal commitment of resourcing).

Hi Kev, and thanks for your learned wisdom, I can never get enough of your writing

. I fully agree with Al and thank you for all your support and yes there are agencies that are better equipped to help especially in the long term and yes people should learn to use the correct agencies and also help themselves.
I have just had two days out and about in the suburbs helping out and as much as anything people need someone to speak to or even put their arms around and share a cuddle of which i have had plenty and for me it's a way of giving and receiving and while helping it is also helping me to deal with the trauma we are all going through, I would call it a
WIN WIN SITUATION,
