ive read that peopla have had increased mileage from removing the egr pipe , dont really get how they work so i'm leaning towards getting injectors rebuilt

Egr is exhaust gas recirculation, sends exhaust back into th intake on most diesels, improves emissions etc, most times when disconnected truck runs better and with way less exhaust smoke. Do a search, there's heaps of info and it's a real easy mod to do.

right have put a new airfilter in and run 2 lots of injector cleaner through is running slightly better but still a lil bit of smoke and chugging thru the diesel. so is it time for an injector service? How much $$$$ would i be expecting to spend on it? And does anyone know of a good person to do it in chch preferably near woolston side of town? cheers guys! :D

Slighty different circumstances here but a sponsor of mine has a 1kzte powered ford transit SWB, engine has been rebuilt with new pistons etc its slightly bigger inside now aswell 3.2L with manuel inj pump.

Not sure on mileage but it cost me $230 worth of diesel to get to palmy and back towing from auckland!!

It was $100 to fill up from empty so similar tank size to surfs.

I have one of these too and get 450-500k's from a tank.
Snorkel, Green air filter, 3" exhaust etc. 240k's on the clock and just had head redone ...sigh! Radiator was also 30% blocked apparently.
Tyres seem to make a difference too - air resistance of the tread pattern? Road tyres give 30-50km per tank more than AT's and same difference to my muddies.

I checked and upped the tyre pressure and now I am getting about 70kms extra (thats around 630km per 72litres) between fills. That has yet to be checked with successive fuel stops but it seems good so far.

I guess with air temps dropping down here (around 0 in the am) the pressure in the tyres has dropped too (warm air being less dense than cool so warm increases the pressure). Something to consider for the season changes I guess.

What size & brand of tyre you running & what pressure?

khumo kl71 265/75/16 and now on 39psi. Was at 37 but when I checked was varied from 32 - 36 (need to check more often).

39 seems okay and the ride is okay so I might raise it again until it gets rough and then drop back a touch.

I used to run my tyre pressures that high, (around 40) until one day I went to stop in a hurry in the wet. Wasn't overly effective except at sliding so now run around 30 and accept worse road manners!!!

iv got mostly worn bridgstone dueller ats on the front and ling long ats half worn on the back all are 31sx10.5x15 (dont no hw to read the metric way) im running at 40psi since the day i got it and still have gt the bad mileage. think im going to take it to get the injectors serviced and mayb the efi serviced too heck if i can save $10 a week on diesel a week that will pay itself off over a year  well worth a try
