On the up side you cant do much to help when they are real young (ie breastfeed). I'd get the mother in law in to help with cooking and cleaning then you'll want to spend all you time out working on the truck

I vaguely remember the seats mod you are talking about (will have a search for it). Think they were out of a mitsibushi or mazda people mover. The most appealing thing about them was they slid forward on the rails and folded up behind the drivers/front passengers seats meaning you can still use the rear tub like a ute (when rear seats folded up out of the way).

If my memory serves me correctly i think those seats your talking about were out of a mitzy rvr, im planning on doing this myself in the near future

I think you guys are right on the rear seats thing, now i think back a few years i remember someone saying RVR seats were the right fit.
Gave the old 350 a kick in the guts for the first time the other day to make sure i hadnt damaged it during transit into its new home, it fired
Ill see if i can load a short vid if anyone is interested to have a look.

Recent start up vid on my rebuilt '92 350sb 4 bolt..
Second vid is small pissing about vid. stood on gas, #7 plug lead fell off, axle tramp in front(had no back drive shaft in) no shocks, coil jumped out.. but it rev's freely to 7k..



those are the skid tyres before anyone says they look small and bald.

Nice engine, looks like you have done some good work on that truck to, looks like it could be an interesting project. Thanks for the vid, cant beat a v8 sound no matter what you try!

Thanks for the info, couple of questions though-
For the rear seat (Mitsubishi RVR) and belts:
1

- lap belts will be fine (due to the year of the vehicle). Use appropriate seat belt mounting backing plates

- provide additional backing plate at mounting points for RVR seat

2 - padding on roll cage

1- What year of vehicle can you get away with lap belts only??
2- If you have a factory roof still on the FJ im assuming you dont need a rollbar for cert??

I have the same in the cruiser, this is how they are mounted:



Notice they are welded in, when it went for cert was told they shouldn't be welded and they needed to be riveted. Which they are now, one in each corner. Wayne said we could leave the welds in tact even though technically we should cut them. The plates run the full length of the bottom runners on the seats. The bolts showing through are the bolts that run through the rails.

The final result:



The great thing about these seats is they work great for the various car seats we have, I have 4 boys, 6 & under, youngest is still in a capsule and that works in these seats too. The only change I would make is to adjust the height of the top seatbelt mount.

Niblik, yeah i was tempted to give it some go juice but knew id get carried away and didnt have the electric fan running so.... that video will come so nobody panic.

From memory they had to be a minimum of 4mm rivets, one in each cornerish. I would have thought the seat belt requirements would have been the same, you need a 100mm x 40mm plate. These guys recommended the guy who did mine:

Well im not sure on the 3 point or lap belts, probably whatever i can get away with, but in reality if im going to have people ride in there i guess whatever is safest.

If you can, fit 3 point belts, Kids car seats once they get to 4+ years old need them. Safer for adults too

I should add, make sure the top mount for the belt isnt too far from the seat like in my truck:



As it pulls the car seats over and isn't high enough to be over the shoulder for an adult

So you think that you should have put the RVR seat back closer to the rear door your saying?

or perhaps some belt retainers along these lines?

Probably not too applicable to your application but I find with my 40 series front seatbelts being mounted so far behind the seats off the rollcage you get the belt cutting into your neck and chaffing especially on a long trip and it gets farking uncomftable and simular to what Bill said they can slide off your shoulder quite easily

Yeah those retainers could be a help for the chaffing as well
What are those seats you have in your 40 in that photo Sadam?
Im planning on just using the factory roof and the seatbelt mounts on it but i find even they are quite far back, especially on after market seats like im fitting, i think ill even need to fit some longer belts to be really comfortable.

If I did that I wouldnt have got all my 'stuff' in behind the seats. the mounting location is the factory toyota one, but in the toyota the seats are over the wheel arches.

those are out of a bmw bill... but quite a few newer ricers have em too.. maybe a stroll round a few wreckers might yield some rewards?

there just the factory croozer drivers and passenger 1 1/2 bench seats, they have been reupholstered in leather and the drivers seat has been padded up a bit, good for cleaning down with the water blaster

REAL leather?

Doesn't it get hot and sticky when you sit on it?
