Advice by email today from Matamata Council.....
"We should have a digger and dozer up Thompson’s Track either late this week or early next week.
They will work their way up fixing the track as they go, so should be clear by the weekend of the 11thFeb."

Remember that logging is planned and access may be restricted over the next few months.

went up thompsons (te aroha side) last night, slips have been all cleared as mentioned on another thread, but since a digger or bulldozer went to the top its rather smooth, currently a 2wd trip apart from the playgrounds and the lookout at the very top

went over last weekend 24th 25th and was passable. we went from east side (waihi side) to west side (matamata side) with out too much stress. as on has said since the digger as being up there its more of a 2 wheel sunday drive.

Has the digger been right down the Katikati (wahi) side ?

There will be a digger and dozer down kati side some time as the current plan when there logging is to go in matamata side and out kati side so its a close cart to tga so im told

they would need to do some major enviroment damgage to get logs to tga with trucks on that side
