not really, you price up the insurance that the 4wd Association has and you'll see why they charge what they do.

if you were a NZFWDA member you could also apply for a fuel card. The savings you make with that, in most case, would easily pay for the cost of the NZFWDA fees. My card saves me more in a month than a years membership of NZFWDA.

this is nothing new to NZ roads, hot rodders , race and club track cars ( including me)have been doing it for years so we can drive specialist type vehicles etc on the road ,so a little less WOE IS ME ! if you have a 4wd for club use or even bigger plans then this should 'WILL' not be a issue ? as your building something for your special reguirements and it should be on sold to someone for the same useage ,all it will do is stop muppets jacking trucks up to run 35" + rubber to go to wollies ,and mum to drop the kids off at school ,THIS IS where the issue lies as they are "not a road car" even certed! as a 4wd have there own handling carateristics and i for one am all for it ,
it will also weed out the wanabes

Hey, is that 1yr NZ4WDA membership before an authority card can be issued rule still going to apply?? It was talked about in another thread debating this issue a few months ago.

Because we all might want to think about joining a club a year in advance, so might need to get onto it now so we are ready when the time comes!!!

flogging a dead horse guys (i got a bit heated about it last time this came up), you will still find each certifier has there own take on things and it is best to talk to the person that will put the tag on your truck. No point in having a go at someone on the internet talking about things that may or may not effect you.

Excessive lifts should be outlawed in my opinion. They are dangerous on the road as well as 4 wheel driving with the high centre of gravity.

Take a look at a top trials truck and notice the height

The only advantage is IMAGE 8) 8) 8)

My 2 cents worth

Hi Tim

The weather is no good for fishing today. There will be no bites so I will sit in my chair and SAY NOTHING 8) 8) 8)

But what does piss me off is the double standards in the law. A hot Rod by attending a couple of meetings in a year can have wheels out the side like a formula 1 and if my wheels stick out more than half an inch I am not road legal.

Cheers Richard

Yes. The 1 year membership rule is standard across Motorsport NZ and Hot Rod NZ. it was made clear to us that it was a nonnegotiable requirement.

I think most of you are missing the point.

There already is a robust system in place.
If you make modifications to your vehicle that are likely to affect the compliance you go see a certifier & he/she will test/examine the vehice & then decide if the vehicle is safe for on-road use.
If safe you will then be issued with a plate that goes on your firewall stating is allowed to have the modifications you have done.

NZ4WD Assn is implimenting another layer of compliance that is not required...they want set low thresholds (of which they are currently none for body or suspension lifts) then control by way of having to be a member of NZ4WD Assn to be able to do anything outside this low threshold....Its got nothing to do with safety its all about getting more members & also more income. They will be effectively gaining $50 per year for each authority card they issue.($25 membership plus $25 renewall fee )

How will having to get an authority card in your wallet make any vehicle on the road safer?

Safety is monitored by the "Certification" system where by unsafe vehicles arent given a cert so arent on the road (legally).

I am not able to give you a date as that is up to Land transport to decide. i expect all details to be released to members at our national conference on 19 May.
As soon as you need a new cert the entire vehicle needs to be checked and comply with the latest standards. Thats no different to any other vehicle with a cert.

Sorry mate your are 100% wrong. Ive just spoken to an MANZ steward who knows his stuff. The authority card is issued to the car and not the driver, said car can then be sold to a non member of club and legally driven on the road.

My blood is boiling on this issue and its NZFWA who have talked about it in there own little group, they havnt talked to other non affiliated 4WD clubs about the issue. Which has coursed this whole problem.

I am seriously looking into joining kiwi and helping Reece get kiwi up and running on the main land, but the more I read the more I just want to walk away for all 4WD clubs and just carry on and do my own thing.

Open and honest communication is the only way forward, to just sit there and dictate to all 4WD owners, just because they are not in NZFWA, is plan rude and arrogant.

re date that's fair enough.thanks.re cert and complying, that's no problems as ive already passed 2 and will mod vechile accoerdingly to pass the 3rd.i was pinpointing more in regards to your comment of if vechile is already certed then no card is required.if i'm further moding my truck with a sas but not changing height then will this count as previously certed situation?with my truck being certed and on 35s for the past 4 years im clearly not new to the game or how to drive it accordingly.i simply have just not joined a club to enjoy the sport i like

Surely this is a law change not a rule change. The police would be the ones be policing this. I can't see it that you'd need to show your 4wd card to go get a wof. I can't remember the old thread but what if you wanted to send a family member to the testing station?

Authority card is Neither a law change or a rule change, simply making use of rules that have been in place for many years.
if you vehicle is subject to an Authority card, it will need to shown to get a Wof or when stopped by Police. No need to be the person named on the card, simply that it has a current card which should be carried in the vehicle.

x2... Without this we could see laws introduced where no one is allowed a lift over 100mm!!!!

Basically what is happening (as happened with Hot Rods) is the Govt says "no one should have a lift over XXXmm's" - NZ4WDA has protected our rights and said certain people need a truck that is lifted over XXXmm's so it is fit for purpose (NOT JUST FOR STREET CRED).

The view is that 4x4er's are better drivers than most so we should be allowed to drive a truck that suits our needs... How do you monitor this???

PC Answer: Appoint a recognized specialist group to monitor their own members...
