I still have a hilux but it's only a 2 seater
I now have an 80 series as well, it's a very tame road vehicle which I intend to keep that way :) just has a set of 33's and a 2 inch lift, has the triple diff locks so I think we'll come in that :P
Would be good to catch up

OLD SMOKEY was called a lot of things but not a RED BOX  , don't get me feeling  , it's only been three weeks since it drove out the drive with it's new owner. Got a Playdoh and it is a Sunday Driver got 31" A/T's and not aloud to scratch it  , surely a trip up the river wouldn't get me into to much trouble  ,

WOULD IT,

Just two bog-standard Surfs these days Steve, though have served us well with many picnics up the Waipara. The later 3.4 V6, which I picked up for a song, was meant to be a project vehicle but was pressed into active service. Does the daily work run now and boat towing duties when on holiday. Doesn't look pretty but mechanically is excellent.

Like the idea of families getting together - it's been too long between drinks for all or us.

Well after seeing all these old time disco drivers i thought maybe i could come for a quiet drive up the river since i've got a disco too  Will let the lousy pom know so he can fit his 40s onto the Prado. He'll want to do a night trip so he can show off his new led light bar

Jase, say it isn't so You and a (shudder) LR?

Sounds like a plan, I could bring the playdoh, Zuk, Bobcat, Digger or Mutt.
But I think the Playdoh will win out, be nice to actually get it off the tarmac before it goes down the line for boys at work to destroy it.

So many people I haven't seen in so long... and looks like there will be more Discos than anything else... They really are a better class of 4WD, owned by a better class of 4WDer

when are we thinking for this trip then (or aren't we allowed to say out loud these days in case some tree hugger reads it and gets mad?)

And Smokey, I apologise if I touched a raw nerve... I know what its like to part with an old friend... although I still have my one at this point...

Ha Ha 2's here's me thinking you uni types where educated beyond your intelligence :o , your obviously the exception to the rule :? , Tom could start off with a full Beer Crate (as a seat for the 60), when he arrives the Crate can be removed and used as a seat at the gathering      and we could all

DRINK THE BEER,

So should we try for this Sunday?

Proposed itinerary:
1000am: Christchurch vehicles meet in Belfast at the carpark at The Peg (the pub just before the motorway starts).
1015am: Leave for the sea-end of the Waipara (just behind the golf-course), picking up any North Canterbury folk along the way...

1100am-ish, start up the river. Drive up to the usual mid-point and break out the BBQ(s) (I'll bring one) and have lunch (Tom, I'm not sure where you're at, you might have to drive down if you want a sausage :) )

Carry on up the river to SH1 and then head home.

Soft-core trip - bring your 29" tyres and leave your diff-locks and snorkel at home just so you'll fit in with me

Oh - and since this is the truck-forsale thread as well: Someone asked me about the deck that comes with the truck... there are some photos here:

Ok, I can't go either now! lol... dammit. I won't be free until 12 on Sunday - but I am still keen to try and go somewhere to test 'the brick' (Was looking for a name for it, and my daughter suggested that since it has the aerodynamic qualities, and the colour, of one  )

I managed to pick up a very cheap 4WD / center difflock lever assy from a series one disco, and I've been pottering away at making it fit - and somewhere along the process I've lost the linkage between the lever assy and the TC (Anyone got a spare S1 Disco I could rob a small part off? :) ) Once thats done I should be sweet - apparently between the traction control (which uses the ABS module to brake any spinning wheels) and the CDL they go quite well.

And on the other main topic - I'm relisting the Hilux again today as it didn't sell. Will add a 2JZ with Hilux bell, flywheel etc in with the bundle this time around (and increase the price accordingly). Still no gearbox / TC at this point - but those are easy enough to come across.

Well, I'm having very little interest in the project on Trade Me - so when it closes I'm just going to part it out and get rid of the bits of value... I'm done with it sitting around getting me all itchy-mig-trigger-fingered...

So... are there any bits that anyone is particularly interested in?

Live Plates? (Someone offered to buy these, then disappeared on me which is frustrating...)

Custom short rear deck?

2 x 4.5 diffs?

2 front housings, one complete (disassembled)

wide rear housing, trussed and set up for coils

pair of Galant rear calipers (but no adapter plates) for rear disc conversion

complete 4.5 ratio Isuzu coil-rear-axle with factory disc brakes (diff inc.)

and a heap of other stuff (I'm bored typing now :) )

Other random bits going on TM all the time http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listin ... member=447

Ok, so I'm wrecking it out... the cab sold but I still have the following parts:

Live plates - 85 double cab, red. These would suit anyone building a project hilux who wants to get it legal before cert or a lapsed rego petrol lux.

4.5 ratio diffs x 2
front axle housing
front axle complete but stripped
IFS power steer box
rear wide (surf) axle set up for coils, inc arms etc
chassis (could include all of the above)
all kinds of parts including front indicators and tail lights
center console (brown - matches Hilux interior, perfect if replacing bench seat with buckets).
80-series rear lower links. Good and beefy, great and handy for for coil conversions. I've got a few of these laying about.
driveshafts - double cardan and normal
complete brown vinyl carpet set and plastic trims / kick panels
high-spec dash with tacho (oooh, flash!)
...and more.
