MATT4U wrote:Dave you have met Tim about a year ago, remember Al's last training day. It may have been brief but you would have met

Yeah, I have met him, but it was down Otago. Just saying that he has been nice enough to offer a place to stay, even though he has met us only once, and if we passed in the street, he wouldn't know who I was.

It seems to be that a lot of people on this site will go out of there way to help fellow members, some of whom they may never even have met.
Its great to see.

So how far ya planning on going?

I take it there are plenty of chances to head to tarseal and cut the trip short? (looking at the topo map there are heaps of roads)

As I said, missus has other plans, so just trying to incorporate both.

Shit Guys, have I EVER cancelled a trip :?: :?: My last training day resulted in three trucks stuck halfway up the doors in thick mud, hailing, broken winch shear pins, and dudes runningaway chicken. You think a little rain in Raingiora is going to scare me. Sun is still shining here in New Brighton  IT IS ONI'M NOT F*&#@*G DEAD YET

I'll be there with bells on, just took a little drive up the kowai on my way home :D

Oh anyone interested the "rain" pissed down for all of about 3 mins and then went away again, so should be good as gold.

I'll do my best impression of being stuck, just so you feel good about yourself.

I'm Leading so unless your behind me, it won't be me attaching any rope  It's a really tight track so it will be trucks in front or behind that will be recovering. Convoy rules and radoi ettiqute will be of the essence on the day for this reason.

And they learnt shitloads, just I didn't have the weather gods on my hands that day.

yup, they are to stay in convoy with each other and dont let the truck behind you out of your rear view mirrow, only 1 truck throu a ford/crossing at a time, no over taking unless needs accare.

and the use of a prs radio (handheld is fine) is needed to stay in commonication with other trucks in convoy. mainly for the trip leader and tale end charile + middle truck. but is good for all trucks to have 1.

dnt think i missed anything

Was going to do this on the day, but happy to do so now.
Convoy rules:
1. keep visual contact with vehicle behind you.
2. Don't dick around that includes those that are camera happy. Keep up with vehicle in front. If you want to take photos pull off track and let followng vehicles overtake. You must take up positon in front of tailend charlie though.
3. Leave all gates as found. #2 vehicle opens gates, and then takes up position in front of tailend charlie.
4. to stop convoy, turn on headlites and honk horn.
5. If someone needs towing, don't dick around, get on with it. Listen to those that have experience though. If not sure seek advice.
6. Let vehicle in front clear obstacle, difficult terrain, river before you attempt it.
7. Radois do not replace convoy rules but enhance them.
8. Tripleader has final say.
Rado ettiqute:
1. Keep chatter to a mininium.
2. No swearing you never know who's listening.
3. Talk slowly and cearly.
4 Messages need to be relayed down the convoy. Ensure people receive your message.
5. Radio's do not replace convoy rules.
Hope this helps. Channell 19 PRS on the day.
